My future wife and I want our wedding to be in the shadow of the bazaar, the most extravagant venue! To help organize I’ve been gathering many, many rats (69 rats per action, Dangerous 125 + 22 currently), but I am not a Rat-Catcher by trade as I became a Monster Hunter a while ago. I really don’t want to go back to Rat-Catcher just for the Ratting Piece.
I am just wondering, is the most efficient way to progress still to continue gathering rats in the marshes? Should I take some time to level Dangerous some more and then get back to it? Is there some other item that is easier/more efficient to get for Planning progress?

Can you get people to help contribute rats? Or does that not count towards the giant rat pile?
Rats are definitely the most efficient method of planning, as it’s five echoes of rats for 10 Organising while most other methods only get 1 Organising per echo. (Church connections are also pretty efficient, iirc.)
Going back to Rat-Catcher is probably your best option, especially if you still have that Notability 5+. You would only need three Favours: Docks, and as long as you maintained your Notability, after grinding you could switch back to Monster-Hunter with only two draws of the Unsigned Message card. Increasing your Dangerous certainly couldn’t hurt either. Among things, you could follow the A Name Scrawled in Blood tracker to 7, do the Velocipede Squad content, or farm Hard-Earned Lessons through social actions to spend on your Dangerous.
You can, but the gift card is infrequent enough that you need a really huge pile of people to contribute a small pile of rats in any reasonable timeframe.
Going Rat-Catcher is better in the long run if you are aiming for the biggest wedding and the burden is entirely on you.
Regular:(Dangerous0.4+10, rounded up), Society loss
Rat-Catcher: (Dangerous0.42+20, rounded up)
So at, say, 259 (200 Base + 15 Notability + 46 Bazaar Equipments with Monster Hunter Harpoon) Dangerous, you are still only getting 114 Rats per action.
For Rat-Catcher at 257 Dangerous (Assuming you lose the +12 Harpoon for the +10 Sharpshooter’s Rifle), you get 128 Rats per action.
You need 500000 Rats total for the wedding, so that is 4386 actions for not going Rat-Catcher and 3907 actions for going Rat-Catcher.
And that’s assuming full efficiency at the start with maxed stats and best equipment - the lower your Dangerous is to begin with, the less actions you save, and you do have a partner to deal with this so switching might not be so important if they are also contributing.
Might just want to make this a rather long term plan and not worry about getting it done quickly or efficiently.
If you are a POSI, or when you become one, you can grind rats through Unfinished Business in Spite → Keep your hands quick. It provides a variable return and is not as good as optimizing as a Rat-Catcher … still, if you want to keep your current profession, it is an option.
Have you spent any time in the Labyrinth of Tigers? At a certain point (end of the first coil) the Tiger-Keeper gives a payment of 7000 rats. It requires building The Hunt Is On to 8, which takes 12 successful attempts at amusing the lesser hyaenas (hysterical!) or feeding the giant octopus (rubbery!). Only a once-off, but worthwhile if you haven’t already done it.
edit: what’re the rats for? Decorations? I don’t see a rat requirement in the wedding stuff on the wiki, but i have no direct experience with it as a player.

I am in final stages of Wedding preparations, with little less than 2000 OtW to go. what I did, as high Persuasive/Shadowy person is spend all my stockpiled cellars of Wine before switching from Author to Crooked Cross for better Shadowy. The rest was pure Soul Trade grind. Today I bought final batch of rats, worth two thousand and five hundred Echoes.
Yeah, I am not a very Dangerous person XD
Oh and this took me a little more than month, with going to the Zee and doing other stuff beside grinding.
Thank you for the advice, delicious friends. I think I will spend some time leveling Dangerous to break the monotony a little. So far I already have Name Scrawled in Blood 7 and I’m pretty much up to date on the Bag a Legend ambition (save for the last available step that demands a ton of wild words items). I’ve also basically finished Labyrinth of Tigers (Making Progress 16). Not sure if I should try to get to another area for leveling.
Is the Velocipede Squad quest the same loop over and over again, or are there ways I can change the outcomes at the end?

Velocipede Squad is carousel, yes, just like Affair of The Box. If you pay Fate, you can change that, but otherwise it is a nice grind for some stuff.
