Hedonist dropped to 11

I was woefully responsible and my hedonist dropped to 11. How can I raise it back to twelve with or without fate? I’m a POSI with access to Iron Republic if that helps?

If you haven’t left the University, you can seduce the Provost.
If you haven’t left the Court, you can go for a threesome.
Finally, there’s an option during the Feast of the Rose that will raise it, though someone other than I will have to explain which. I believe it costs fate.

You can also sell your soul.

You can also raise your Hell Renown. Raising it while at or above 15 will give you Hedonist.

It would be very nice if faction items could be used to modify quirks even by those who’ve reached the renown caps, because as it is they’re the only repeatable ways to increase quirks at levels 10-12. I don’t think such a change would make quirk boosting too easy, because (like the actions which consume faction items entirely) the quirk-modifying faction-item activities require renown 15 and have a substantial material cost (7 favors and some assorted items).

There’s no true renown cap. There is a point where the stat requirements become too high to reach, which effectively acts as a cap; to prevent that they could just make it so renown cannot go above 50.

By &quotat the renown cap&quot I mean &quotat a level of renown which requires higher stats than the player can currently reach&quot. Someone who has pushed a faction’s renown out of reach cannot use that renown-gain option to modify quirks. I’m speculating about actions which cost 7 favors and some items as if we were raising renown, but which do not have a stat requirement and only modifies quirks without raising renown.

I know there’s an hedonist raising rare success there, and it does not cost fate, just 1 carnival ticket. It’s in the perfumed pleasure garden: http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Enjoy_the_decadence.
It took me two feasts to go from hedonist 10 to 15.

Well there ya go. I was misremembering.

I just want to stop living in fear of damaging a hard-earned quirk by unwittingly hitting the wrong button. I’m constantly double checking things on the wiki like some kind of paranoid maniac. Some non-renown based method to fix quirks below 12 would be nice, even if its absurdly expensive.

It depends on the exact quirk, but usually if there are any quirk options that cap at 15, they’re not ones you’d normally expect. Austere, for example, required me to do Area Diving multiple times and fling the pantry-boxes in the river. As for why that’s more Austere than Morification of the Flesh or most other options… well, you’ve got me.

Still, back to Hedonist, I’m pretty sure the only ways to increase it are easily locked out of or are seasonal events. Hopefully if Failbetter allows to reenter the Court, you’ll be able to use the option there to increase Hedonist to 12+, albeit quite slowly.

Hang on, the wiki says that dealing with the box should only be possible at A Name Whispered in Darkness exactly 2. How are you doing it more than once?

(And it caps at 15 because most of the Making Your Name options do. Not sure why the Hedonist option for dealing with the box caps at 10.)

There’s an Area Diving storylet available from A Name Whispered in Darkness 3 onwards.

So assuming I started the journey to expelled from court right before I lost my hedonist 12 and have paused right before turning in Tristam Bagsby’s Masterpiece, I could in theory sell my memento and perform a couple of acts on the throne visits to the tomb colonies and all and be back up to 12?

Yes, that will work.

I’m aware, but according to the wiki, the actual options inside the Area Diving storylet to find/deal with the box require ANWiD = 2 as well.

I’ve tried it just today - I can deal with the box, and it does in fact raise Austere higher than 10.
