Heart's Desire Finale

I noticed The Curious Watcher just received his monthly reward for Power. Could anyone who picked another reward, any at all, please share theirs?

Edit: Also to The Curious Watcher: GOOD LORD that Boatman foreshadowing on the Melancholic End-Bringer’s mantelpiece! Please, where did you find that endgame hint and does anyone have the others?

There are three foreshadowings, available in obscure places.

One card you can draw at Zee.
One card you can draw while on a boat down the silent river.
One card you can draw while a guest at the Royal Beth.

Partial info is in the thread on this forum asking for more details about the Character Reset options. More complete details are in the following Reddit thread.

The Wiki also has some of the content.

This is the monthly reward for Time.

Random does work in mysterious ways here, pals. After 16 days of uselessly depleting my fortune in one expedition to the Shrine after another I’ve only obtained two Skulls. I’ve been angry and frustrated and didn’t want to spend any more money, so I resorted to just wandering the Quarter.

Guess what? I’ve got 3 remaining skulls in one day; it took 60 actions or so.

Finally, I can finish this story.

I just finished the story, and it was excellent. Wonderful writing, really nice toys, and some real deep examinations of certain characters. Great and enjoyable work, and made me consider Caroline’s long term plans well.

I just completed the main part of Heart’s Desire - the final ending will be unlocked in 24 hours. Obviously, spoilers follow.

Over the course of this whole final chapter, the writing did a really good job of taking the romance out of the whole thing bit by bit. I mean, a lot of players would have chosen this ambition for its romantic flair originally - &quotWin your Heart’s Desire!&quot and all that. In the end, it was only about cheating, and cheating again. Was there a single bout that wasn’t fixed? At times, I felt like being part of the betting mafia, setting up boxing fights. That’s one part of why I didn’t care about winning in the end.

I really felt for the Bishop and his longing to return South. I would’ve gladly let him win, but unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards. Still, it was an absolute pleasure to have my dreams of Thunder blow away the Manager’s schemes, and return Tristram Bagley’s mind - that deed alone makes me feel like the winner of this tournament!

I guess I wasn’t alone in underestimating the monkey - after the Honours round, I was sure Mr Pages would be my final opponent. As it was, I savoured all the visions and temptations offered to me by the Bazaar - very beautiful, very entertaining - only to laugh in the Masters’ faces and gladly let the monkey win (I was very much reminded of Galadriel at that moment, ‘passing the test’). Whether he will really end the Marvellous now, or choose to have his humanity back after all, is up to him. I hope I won’t be bothered to help him decide (though it wouldn’t surprise me).

It was the Boatman who really set me on my path: &quotAsk yourself: is the Marvellous the only way to achieve your heart’s desire? … Don’t confuse the game with the trophy. The heart makes cages for us all.&quot Probably my favourite bit of text in the whole Ambition, and perfectly true. And wasn’t he screwed, even though he won? &quotOh yeah, you can have a replacement - if we find someone, haha.&quot Bloody Masters. And Bloody Bazaar as well. Too bad I didn’t get a chance to blow it up after all :D

I haven’t looked at any forum threads or the wiki during this whole time, in order to be able to play unspoiled, which was a good thing. I have no idea what final reward is still in stock for me tomorrow, but I almost don’t care. I already got The Thief-Oath of Tristram Bagley, A Bestiary of the Hearts’ Desires and A Dream of Truth-Strangling, so I really can’t complain. In the end, the journey was very much the destination (no idea if this is true for the other ambitions as well), which is fine by me. I now have Parabola to explore, and gazillions of experiments to do in my Lab…

Thank you Failbetter, for all the new content, and all the stuff still to come! And for consistently maintaining high quality over these many years! :)

I’ve made the similar choice - for the ethical reason at least. And I’ve already experienced the grand finale.
Of course, the result is not valuable mechanically - at all - but it’s rewarding morally, at least. And, to be frank, almost no reward from actually winning would benefit my main from pure mechanical point of view.
I’m also very happy that I’ve managed to recover the mind of Topsy King, even if just partially.

I couldn’t get rid of associations with the Stalker by Andrey Tarkovsky. I wonder whether Failbetter Games have actually been somewhat inspired by it when working on this Ambition. The screenplay (as opposed to the movie) ends with Stalker saying to his wife something like ‘Well, these are my friends now, though we haven’t achieved anything else’, and that’s exactly what I felt when walking home with Monkey in tow.

I wonder, though, having made the choose that I’ve made, will I get a chance to hire Cora Bagley to my Lab? I should be able to, but I don’t quite understand how to do it.

&quotWhat’s the coolest thing you ever won at a card game?&quot

&quotLondon.&quot

Yes! Or the &quotRoadside Picnic&quot too.

I was strongly leaning towards the Power ending, but the monthly reward seems to imply that this ending results in the erasure of one’s self as the Red Science makes its changes. Does anyone have an echo of the monthly reward for the Adoration ending?

Seconding that. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone post the Freedom rewards either, and I’m very curious.

If you check https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/The_Rewards_of_Ambition the second comment includes screenshots of HD : Adoration

Do you mean Escape, because as far as I know there is no freedom ending of Hearts Desire.

That’s the one, got its name wrong.

The Wiki has the Rewards for all endings (see: https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Visit_your_other_home for the Rewards of Escape) and https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/The_Rewards_of_Ambition for all the other ones

But unlike for Adoration, there’s no link to the full echo there, and unlike for Time and Power, I haven’t seen it posted in this thread (or elsewhere on the forums).

By the way, I really wonder, if we cancel the Marvellous, who should inform Custodian at Root of Need of that? His services will no longer be required, but unless informed he’ll wait for new players in vain…

Here’s the echo for the Escape ending: https://www.fallenlondon.com/profile/Tenterhook/18668314

I know the rules of Neath-death, sunlight, etc. are a bit nebulous, but given the existence of Cider I thought the Masters might come up with something a bit more effective than this…

I’m interested in seeing the Bishop’s reaction to each lodging, but everywhere I check it’s people playing against the Topsy King… Could anyone help me?
