I’d recommend everyone should die and explore the Boatman’s area at least once or twice. It’s a new area of fallen london with cool text, might as well read it.
My main hasn’t died yet, to my knowledge. Not even to Feducci or in the process of obtaining two Impossible Theorems. I imagine if I ever go back to the surface I might get a nasty sunburn as my stats go back to merely "almost" superhuman, but otherwise will be fine. First time I saw the Boatman was with my Seeking alt this year when I finally got around to taking it seriously. I’m not a very good Seeker, apparently.

Now that I have Hesperidean Cider, i go out of my way to gather wounds and walk through carnival mirrors just to bully the Boatman with my inability to die.
I have indeed died on a couple of occasions, although I put this off as long as possible. The first time occurred when my curiosity got the better of me and I wondered what was behind a certain mirror. The second was a little more deliberate as I needed to speak with the boatman.
