Hallowmas, 1891: The Visitors Are Here

And did they get a full refund when they returned it, or just Bazaar credit?

Oh, that’s easy. I set this year on fire. Hardly my fault, you understand. The woman with the tattered stockings wouldn’t stop yapping about her silly fossil collection, and there’s only so many times you can shove a concubine down the stairs before it becomes improper, you know. And that cat - positively dreadful! Something had to be done, and that charlatan of a manager cared nothing about the state of the place. So I took the camphor and set Time ablaze. Lovely! All silver and green. Danced with the false-stars, it did. And the tea-cakes are the most delightful temperature, once you peel off the wax. Time melts quite dreadfully, you know. Or does it? It’s hard to remember these days. Sometimes, I think my thoughts march right out of my head! None of them can be bothered to stick around, though. Pity. I’d love to get their opinion on things. Where was I?

What in fact is this? PM me if you don’t want to put it here.

I am wondering what will happen to those of us unfortunate enough to not draw one of the visitor cards by the 31st. I’ve had my Nightmares over 5 for almost the whole festival, and my Making Waves the same, but so far my only visitor has been a certain cheery gentleman who has overstayed his due.

Edit: Well, go figure. I drew the Visitor card just now. Still, my question stands for those less fortunate.

Because I’m aiming for the option that requires 3 fish, I still haven’t selected. And need the card twice more before I can. Worst comes to worst, but mid evening tomorrow, I’ll suck it up, use fate and get one of the other options. But I’ll SAD FACE for a while first.

That said - once started on the path, maybe it’ll be like Xmas, and you can still play the story a month or so later. So long as started on the path … :-S

I don’t really know how you’d distinguish that a player had started. A few people (probably quite a few) will probably want to hang onto a Cave Fish as a memento without wanting to be assailed with cards that aren’t much relevant.

Still, it doesn’t seem like the Possible Future changes at all depending on which visitor gave you the quality, just the quality itself so if you’re really stuck you could just go with the 1-fish option.

I know. I had my optimistic face on. See? OPTIMISTIC FACE

I am one of those people. So really I want the card 3 times!
But the card gods are unkind. I’ve probably said something bad in front of my computer, and she’s passed on the sulk to the card giving out machine. WE. SHALL. SEE.

Edit: deep breath my alt, on the other hand, has drawn this card twice in a row, but being low level, as access to almost no options. DAMMIT. claws desk in frustration

That is a dangerous gamble. If all you need is a quality, and you can get it with just one card, why not go for it? Better to keep a spare fish for future use (or just as a souvenir: I chose the hook-handed magician path, but I got me an extra fish just because) than to wait for three cards of which only two could appear in time.

Well, if he has fate, it’s not as much of a gamble. And why wouldn’t you want the SMEN option?

I feel guilty - I’ve been getting the visitors card all over the place. Especially on my alt.

Me too! I get cards people complain about being rare all the time and I feel terrible about it. I’d post the card to you if I could!!!
butchering connections to remove useless cards is like the best thing you can do in the game to improve your efficiency, honestly

I’ve been trying to do that, for separate reasons, but I’m finding it really hard to lower connections further once they get down to… like, 2 or 3. It gets rid of the conflict cards, but not the rewards cards, and those are just as common.[li]

The main problem with that tactic being that you can’t really be sure when a connection will be needed. Like, I never made much of my Church connection until I started grinding Great Game, at which point Church became an invaluable asset to convert. Or the capital importance of the Bohemian connection since I opened a Salon. Who knows when that Orient or Rubbery Men connection points could come out useful?

It’s not really all that hard to raise up a connection most of the time, though. It’ll take a bit of legwork, most of the time, but having a full set of connection boosters (apart from the bone skeleton key which is pretty much useless) can get you towards most connection requirements fairly easily.
But not all of them. And some things require connections on short notice, which is inconvenient if an option you want is asking for Great Game 40 and you have 3.

But on the other hand you end up with so much less chaff in your deck that you can become a god of Knife and Candle Iron Leaguers, boost Making Waves and Notability more easily and get plenty of Certifiable Scraps, among other things. As long as the RNG is benevolent and doesn’t give you the useless &quotYou’ve hit a content boundary!&quot cards that you can’t really get rid of over and over again.

Because I am a seeker. Anything that has a seeking option MUST BE PURSUED AT ALL COSTS. I actually now offset coffees I would have bought against fate I have to acquire instead.
DAMN YOU FAILBETTER. Yes, you heard me. LESS caffeine and it’s YOUR FAULT. glares twitches

Why is bone skeleton key pretty much useless? I have been known to use it to great success and considerable profit. Is there some underlying devilry that I should be aware of concerning this particular piece of hardware?

12 destinies, 5 dreams… Presuming that both Nacreous Outcast options will allow for a different destiny, that’s two. The Bishop, the Devil, and the Genial Magician all lead to the same place as well, that’s 5. The Presbyterate Adventuress mentions your Benefactor, perhaps it changes depending on whichever one you chose? That’s 9. Factor in The Haunted Doctor and the Special Constable, and we get 11… hrm. Keep in mind, all of this is nothing but conjecture.

Well, the event is almost over and I have yet to get the card even once despite having my qualities at matching level all throughout. RNG gods truly have forsaken me.

The worst part is, you don’t even need Nightmares & Making Waves at 5 to draw the card - it’ll appear anyway, and you simply won’t be able to play all the options. All the sympathy for the folks who have yet to see it!
