Fate-Rerolling in fate-locked expeditions

I’m talking about the reroll your unexpected treasure option at the end of an expedition. From Gallery of Serpents, I received Wine (again) while trying to get Tears, so I thought… why not spend 4 more fate instead of 7 (plus a bunch of supplies) to repeat this expedition?

And then I got a Storm Threnody + Whispered Secrets. Which is actually way BELOW the rewards table range for Gallery of Serpents. Is this option so inherently broken? My gut says this is just really sloppy implementation and really should not appear on a Fate expedition :(

Has anyone had luck getting support over this?

The Fate-locked expeditions have a higher range, but it still goes from 0 to their respective maximum
you could even get the Wooden Mask if RNG feels like it.

At least that’s how much I know of it.

Which is why I’m calling this out as bad implementation instead of a real bug. Has anyone gone to support before about it?

I doubt anyone has gone to support, as that option is presumably working as intended. Getting an option so much worse is definitely frustrating, but the option does explicitly say you can’t use it to get a more valuable reward. (And iirc the Tears reward is better than the one with wine, so even with better luck you couldn’t have gotten it.)

I do agree that a better implementation of the reroll would have a higher rewards floor for Fate expeditions to match their possible rewards, but I suspect that would be difficult to code.

I thought it was well known that the re-roll is always something equal or lesser value, The Wiki is your friend (though I thought the storylet actually said so. too.)

The Fandom (formerly Wikia) wiki refuses to list the higher-level Unpredictable Treasure results because they are fate-locked, so it is reasonable that Lumyire might not have known that Tears was a higher value than Wines at first or second glance. I think it’s on the other wiki, though.

Edit: Checked the other wiki. It’s not there either. It would have to be somewhere on the forums, then.

The relevant wine result actually is on the wiki—it’s A carefully wrapped container, which is an extremely rare result from the Shrine of the Deep Blue Heaven. Though even if it wasn’t listed, the echo value is far lower than that of Tears. As the reroll says, you never get a more valuable reward.

The reward range info is not on the wiki, but on a old how-to-grind-expeditions post on reddit. Anyway, I realized the mistake about not being able to get Tears as soon as I clicked the option, but thought that maybe I’ll get the Night whispers instead.

Anyway, I did send support an email with suggestions. I doubt this is intentional, just an unfortunate side effect of how things are coded, so it would be a &quotbug&quot and not a &quotfeature&quot…?

In my experience, Fate-Locked expeditions have a hard minimum, at least Gallery of Serpent definitely has - A carefully wrapped container.

I know there was a Google form to gather results from players, but can’t remember anything else.

To clarify, while grinding for Cider (and there had been no new expeditions then), I did something about one hundred of Galleries (spanning over two years), and never ever once got nothing below A carefully wrapped container. I will not uncover what lies ‘just above it’, but monetarily it’s the same 125 Echo.

I will not repeat this run though - new expeditions are free, and give the same monetary range. Sure, Fate-locked ones can give nice jackpot, but aren’t so appealing anymore.
