Well, @waterpls, I went to the Base Camp in the Forgotten Quarter (bc that’s what the inscription on my “Myself” page under “Candlefinder” said to do) and completed an Expedition without finding anything related to the story.
There is a special expedition (The Granite Gallery) added to the usual list, probably near the bottom. The regular expeditions won’t help.
It absolutely is a special expedition. It needs 20 supplies, too.
I’m only partway through the second one of these, but I’m really enjoying them! It feels very back-to-basics in the Fallen London world, with cool little ideas that make you feel how weird ‘basic’ is in Fallen London. It’s a nice change from things getting bigger and more dramatic and world-shattering all the time!
Also, the Implacable Detective investigating jam then cream vs. cream then jam gave me a giggle.
Haven’t seen a special expedition or even a new one, but I’ll look again. Thanks, Mr. Underhill. So I tried to start another expedition and “Granite Gallery” was there . Turns out I missed it because it was grayed out as I didn’t have enough supplies (I had less than 20 though more than 10).
I really love all the worldbuilding details. I like being able to picture the environment!

A question in relation to the Belfry case. There is a reference at the end to a “Mother Superior”, specifically
> I have certain assurances from the Mother Superior that the bat won’t trouble the Flit long.
Does anyone know what this refers to, and whether there is an ES linked to that reference?
Thanks.
The Mother Superior appears extensively in the Bag a Legend! ambition. I don’t know if she’s on any ESs.
She’s the Mother Superior of Abbey Rock.
Ah, thank you. Yes, I do know of her.
I just reread your post after properly waking up and having a coffee and I now realise you’re probably asking about the event, not the character.
Sorry, I know nothing about it.
No, you were awake enough! I thought it might be the Abbey Rock one and was unable to come up with a connection to wings of thunder bats. But Bag a Legend is helpful.
Just wanted to say how much I’ve been enjoying the Candlefinder Society stories. I’ve done two so far and am looking forward to more. The mysteries are intriguing, and the writing is stellar. Other things that I have particularly liked:
-
Use of existing Fallen London mechanics such as the laboratory and Flit heists. This is something that is missing from Exceptional Stories (which, as I understand it, need to be accessible to early-game players who may not have a laboratory, etc).
-
Moving around different locations in London to pursue the cases. I know that the cases are supposed to be more ‘grounded’ in London, but I do hope that advanced future cases incorporate some late-game areas such as Parabola, Hinterlands, the Roof, Parabola…
-
That the cases are replayable.
Yeah, these have been pretty nice! I like them!
Totally agreed! I like these new stories very much.
I was just coming here to mention how much I’m enjoying this! It’s fun to have a reason to revist some of these loops one might have already “outgrown” (it took me a minute to remember how one even grinds The Hunt is on!) and it also makes the fairly action intensive stories feel much more varied and interesting, rather than just a new grind
Looking forward to seeing what other mechanics they integrate in other stories–maybe we can recover a vital clue from some lost cargo by brawling at the docks?
From the Case of the Dead Puppet I learned that not only do Clay Men talk in capital letters, they also write in capital letters.
Hi, I’m stuck on the Missing Comb case. I’m in the Flit and have been planning a heist but I can’t find any options that relate to the Missing Comb case. I’ve looked in The Big Score storylet but there’s nothing there that looks relevant. I’d appreciate some more guidance.
Thanks.
If I remember well it was under Thefts of Particular Character.
Had great fun playing the Glasshouse War. The Urchin Detective is so smart and comical, and it’s always fun to discover more about the various urchin factions. Recommended.
