Our devs have been hard at work tracking down and squishing bugs within the new Fallen London site. We’ve reached the point where we’d like to invite a few people back in via a closed-beta.
If you’d be interested in helping us by finding and reporting bugs, please email fallenlondonredesign@failbettergames.com directly with your character name included so we can give you the required permissions.
After we feel confident in the closed-beta, we’ll be opening it up to further load test the site, so stay tuned! edited by Absintheuse on 7/27/2018
We’ve just updated the beta to version 8312. You should be able to get the updated version by just refreshing the page (although you may have to do so more than once). For reference: the current version is displayed in a couple of places. If you’re on a desktop-sized screen, it’s in the footer, while if you’re on a smaller screen it’s at the bottom of the slide-out menu.
Fixed in 8312:
Penstock’s Land Agency is accessible from the Bazaar again.
Drawing ‘problem’ cards in places like the Finishing School no longer blanks the story tab.
The listed number of equippable items of a given type in ‘Possessions’ now changes when you unequip/equip one of them.
Possessions you can’t use no longer have a pointer (hand) cursor.
You can no longer buy/sell items in negative quantities.
You can once again change mantel/scrapbook qualities while viewing your profile.
I’ll do my best to keep this thread updated when we deploy substantial updates.

I just want to say that this beta does work really, really smooth and easy. No time shenanigans which plagued me at that first attempt, and no really notable bugs, so congratulations. It just works, period.
Most of the latest changes relate to ongoing work on issues around synchronisation, but there are couple of minor things to note:
You should now be able to request a password reset.
There’s an option in the slide-out side menu to go full-screen, should you want to. (On larger devices, the option is at the very top, beside your username.)
We’ve made some changes to the map’s behaviour on small screens.
Thanks as usual for the bug reports and feedback.

sdob - does the map change default to full screen with mobile devices? Or should I report it? Remains at “exit fullscreen” on my iPhone, but that may be your intent.
Aside from the exciting news that we have changed our versioning system, there are also a few more things that may be of interest:
You should no longer have ‘0’ of items after selling them at the Bazaar or losing them through storylets.
Cards that are added to your hand through storylets won’t overflow your deck (they’ll appear the next time you have an available space in your hand).
The Plans tab should update when you complete a plan.
The Story tab should no longer completely reload when your actions update (this was causing people to lose messages they were composing while completing social actions).
Thanks for the feedback and bug reports so far. We’re working through them as fast as we can.
The map is indeed intended to be full-screen on phone-sized screens all the time. The changelog wasn’t very clear about this; apologies for that. Toggling fullscreen on mobile devices allows hiding the address bar and soft (usually navigation) keys on screens with limited vertical real estate.

Does this mean that if I have a full hand of cards I don’t want to discard for whatever reason, on the new site I won’t be able to e.g. summon the Amanuensis or get a Memory of Chains until I can make space in my hand?
If that’s the case, is there any reason it can’t be made to work like it does on the old site right now? From a user’s point of view, the fact that it’s internally a card isn’t very relevant - so having it restricted by the open space in your hand, while only a minor inconvenience, is still a needless inconvenience.

Version 2.9.1 fixes the order of items in each category on the Myself tab to match the current live site.

Oh my goodness! So much better.
=)
This was likely a small thing to do, and not as much of a priority as many of the other things you’re improving. But still…very impactful to the user experience.

Version 2.9.20 is up; please refresh your browser if you’re seeing an older
version.
A couple of tangible changes among the bugfixes:
[ul]
[li]Quality requirements on small screens should now all fit onto the same line.[/li]
[li]The map now automatically closes when you enter a storylet.[/li]
[li]Map location tooltips on large touch devices no longer occupy most of
the screen width.[/li]
[li]The 'Play' buttons in touch devices' card tooltips are now consistently
functional.[/li]
[li]Opportunity cards should update correctly when you move between areas
with different opportunity decks/hands.[/li]
[li]Buy/sell messages at the Bazaar are a little more nicely formatted
now.[/li]
[/ul]
Many thanks, as usual, to the army of beta testers for the bug reports and
feedback!
