I understood it to mean anyone playing on the app or using social actions with someone using the app would be more likely to have issues, though those same players and anyone else might have said issues playing through the browser as well.
Well done. Assertive enough to grab eyeballs of those unfamiliar with Fallen London, but tasteful enough not to offend your devoted, delicious denizens.
Here’s another question. Are there any plans in the works for an app to run on Android phones? (My husband, who has an Android phone, plays FL on it in his browser now, but an app could enhance that experience, I’ll wager.)
I recall the word re: Android devices being that Failbetter would consider an app based on how the iOS app goes.
I have been exploring the app this morning and I really love it. The music is poignant and adds much to the atmosphere. The graphics are crisp on the iPad but still retain a classic feel. The map, in particular, is striking. I also love clever little details, like making the text about dreams move and twist on the screen. I was curious as to how journal entries will be handled, as there are only ten slots and not all text seems to include an option for recording. Thank you so much for adding an additional dimension to already amazing experience.
I’m very disappointed to see that the app only works on iOS 9 as I still have an iPod touch which works on iOS 6. :(
Too bad, I was really waiting for this app release. I’ll wait for the Android version (if it comes).
As far as I can see, the version available on the App Store does not appear to be the latest version…
Thus far I have been quite impressed by the App’s atmosphere and different-but-familiar art style; however, I must ask: Are logons between browser and app mutually exclusive? That is to say: Does logging onto one log out of the other?
As much of an annoyance as that could be, it would be justified from a technical standpoint.
The app lets you use the same character as in the browser version without anything like that to my knowledge.
Congrats on your go-live! Best of luck in the coming days with bugs and clueless users.
On an entirely unrelated note… is there a “try again” button that I’m missing or is “Onwards” the only choice even on repeatable storylets?
Downloaded the app - and so far, loving the ability to log into FL easily on the go. Music fits the atmosphere and world really well too - though perhaps a bit more variety added over time would be nice!
I would like to echo Wiwo’s question though - I didn’t see any ‘try again’ option for repeatable storylets. I also ran into a bit of trouble when switching between the broswer and app versions - I had to re-log in to each one if I switched, with the app version taking a fair while to start as it spent a few minutes checking for image updates and then reverting to a previous save.
Opening the app logs you out from browser version, but logging in in browser doesn’t affect the app, at least it was like that for beta and is for me now.
That button was omitted on purpose and is to be revealed sometime after launch.

The button will be revealed or the purpose will? I wasn’t aware that it was intentional when I was testing…
The Try Again button would be useful, especially for actions far down on the list, but… I am more interested in how I can record things in my Journal. Especially the result of actions.

The button, I hope :) To be precise, Lottie told me "For now, the ‘try this again’ button has been deliberately omitted by design, but we’ll review this post-launch".
Ah, thank you. That’s interesting to know. A curious decision. I had also flagged the absence of the button and the journal but didn’t get an explicit response.
I have to say that while I tried playing the app as much as I could while playtesting the absence of 1) try again, 2) the journal and 3) the detailed tracking of quality changes meant that as soon as the app became synced to the live account I stopped using it for my main. Now that the testing is over, I am torn. The app is beautiful. The music is amazing. I really want it to succeed. But the absence of those three features is a sizable deal breaker that for now leads me to carry on with using the browser version on my phone :/
I would like to add 4th item to your list - sync system. Currently the progress syncs when you reach zero actions or buy something, which is not very convenient - and is certainly confusing. Not only for me it seems, there’s already a review in App Store where user apparently didn’t understand that mechanics and quit the game. Maybe some sync button is in order…
I agree. I’ve been (mildly) frustrated with the inability to manually sync so far. I usually carry an action balance so that I can take advantage of e.g. the 8-action overgoat card when I draw it, so 0-actions triggering sync doesn’t work for me.
I love the aesthetic of the app, and would like to use it for, ideally, everything. Functionally there are some things I’m used to in-browser that I can’t get in-app:
- I hope we get a way to journal the results of actions, as someone else has already noted above
- It would be nice if unresolved social requests were put in a separate tab from resolved social requests - it makes the messages tab easier to navigate when you’re not accepting all your requests right away, and waiting for, say, TtH
On top of this, there are a couple of things I’d like to say:
- The swipe-right menu currently feels a bit too sensitive, and I keep getting it by mistake while scrolling down. When you tap out of that menu the page scrolls back up to the top. It would be nice if one or both of these were adjusted to remove some frustrating repeat scrolling.
- Some remember-account feature that includes support for those with alts would be nice… Not necessary, not by any means, but nice.
- Change point displays are currently buggy - the game seems to think, for example, that my gaining a couple of levels of Casing has equated to a change point loss of -5, and tells me I need 12 more points of casing to get to Level 7
- Qualities on the Myself page at represented as numbers without text. This presents a problem for qualities such as Closest To, where each faction is assigned a number that can only be seen with the quality text.
Overall it feels like the app is fantastic for exploring the game - adding an aesthetic layer in the UI and music that are both gorgeous. However, for post-POSI players the browser is currently a superior experience.

During Beta it would glitch if you tried to interact through browser and app simultaneously (the app would show a notice informing you of a missync and revert to when it had last contacted Failbetter’s servers) but didn’t force a log out
