There are one or two other bonuses you can get by playing FL, but they’re not game changing, they just give you a slightly (emphasis on slightly) faster start. Otherwise, it’ll mostly give you a deeper understanding of the lore (and there’s lots of lovely text). But, if it’s not your thing, that’s ok too.
