Difficulty of temporary profession track swap?

So I recently hit my tier 3 profession (Glassman). However, I also just hit the point where I suddenly need 3 &quotsworn statements&quot and from the googling I’ve done, those are bog standard parts of the weekly reward for the career journalist tree, and otherwise all but impossible to get without spending FATE or waiting for the right opportunity cards to accrue enough of the right favours and then hoping for some rare opportunity cards to show up 2-3 times. Neither of which are things I want to do just to get a single item for a single branch of a single story.

So my question is: how detrimental is it going to be to give up Glassman, take up journalist, get the reward from it, give up journalist, re-get campaigner, re-get mystic and re-get glassman? Is there a relatively painless way to do that?

There is no penalty or anything from switching professions. So while it will take a while, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

You get 3 sworn testaments by completing the foreign office cycle and picking the Value of Good Names option. It may be faster than taking journalist and re-taking all the earlier professions on your road to glassman.

Yes, Cleanfear is correct. It also resets your Empire’s Whatever status in Port Carnelian, which can be a boon if you intend to do a few terms as governor. It is much, much faster than dropping your tier 3 profession for the sake of a few sworn statements.

Switching professions overall really isn’t an issue. I’ve done it multiple times, depending on what I needed at any given point. A number of items that are tricky or tedious to acquire drop into the basket weekly this way, including selected favours. I’ve variously been a glassman, an author, a rat catcher, a crooked cross, a trickster, a doctor, a campaigner (currently)…

It helps to have the required card waiting for when you launch the process, though. Otherwise it’s back into training, practically an unpaid intern.

I’m not that interested in the level of the cash rewards, more in the selection of goodies. No reason not to sample what is on offer.

The problem with the foreign office cycle is that I only even learned the foreign office existed when I looked up Sworn Statements which means that’s probably even further away than the profession swap. My court reputation is currently 2 which again… feels like a lot of work to suddenly switch my attention to for a single item.

So if I take the profession route: does dropping your profession reset your weekly payment counter? Like… should I wait until I get paid this week and then swap immediately after, or is payment tied to “Time, the healer” regardless of when you start the job?

Time the Healer brings an Earnest of Payment. This is not tied to job start time at all.

Fun fact: After TtH rolls around, you can actually drop one job and get another, and collect the payment for the new job (if you haven’t collected for the old one). You can’t collect if you’re not employed, and I don’t know for sure what happens if you’re jobless at the instant that TtH hits.

alright, so as long as I get “an unsigned message” twice between pay periods to get back up to glassman, going journalist will only cost me the temporary loss of my +12 profession item and 25 echoes worth of salary?

If you’re looking for Sworn Statements and/or Dubious Testimonies you could also try to get the Church/Bohemians conflict card. Siding with the Bohemians gets one 2 Sworn Statements and 6 Dubious Testimonies.
Siding with the Constables on Constables/Rubbery Men also grants 1 Sworn Statement.

The card I meant was the Bohemians card, which you use to become a journalist. Then that card or the Unsigned Message to become an author. Provided in each case you meet the other requirements (exceptional short story) and have the correct number of favours. It’s two steps in each case.

Conflict cards works but there’s the favours requirement as well.

Traditionally, the end of Election also gives out Sworn Statements dependent on your progress. This may change this year.

The Foreign Office is reliable for grinding it otherwise.
