Did the mobile app just corrupt my account?

Have not been able to login for the past two days. I tried to use the mobile app and it said something about syncing failing and attempting to reload a previous save, then froze up. Exiting and trying again, just leads to &quotpresync failed&quot and a long error message. Now attempting to login regularly with my browser leads to usually error message received when the servers are down. As far as I can tell though, this is only happening to me, so now I’m concerned something with my account is now damaged.

Has anyone had a problem like this before? I submitted a ticket but I think the Failbetter staff is busy with the holidays. Meanwhile, there’s a lot of possible card refreshes passing me by, meaning a lot of opportunities to draw urchin cards and stockpile pails of so called snow for an attempt at the Noman. I’m growing increasingly nervous here.

The exact same thing is happening to me. I had problems as you described (long error message) with the mobile app today, finally just got home and tried to log in via browser, and now absolutely everything is resulting in an error message (&quotOur apologies!&quot), including viewing other people’s profiles.

Edit to add: If I clear my cache, I can get to the FL main page, create a new account, and log in with no problem.

Same. It looks like I could make a new account, but I can’t log into my own.

It’s the weekend, so Failbetter support won’t be able to troubleshoot until Monday. Hopefully the lost time doesn’t cause issues with the Noman!

I was really hoping to send out my last Christmas cards with a heartfelt note to a few special gentlemen who may or may not know about one another. >_>

I had the same issue, but fortunately I managed to reach support before the weekend, so they unlocked me.

I believe that in my case the issue is connected to the teaching in Jenny’s school: it seems the app just cannot work correctly with new opportunity cards in the school.

Here is what I did to get an error in the first place:

  1. I was playing The Empress’ Shadow on iOS while I noticed a strange thing: even while I am in Jenny’s School I saw regular Opportunity cards, not School-related ones.

  2. I even managed to complete the story, but then I tried to try the School again and obviously got stuck (maybe there’s no way out of school without Opportunity cards except giving up teaching, which I didn’t want to do).

  3. So I logged in browser, but it didn’t help: I still saw the same opportunity cards. So I used a storylet for Exceptional Friends to move to my Study and then to Lodgings.

  4. Then I returned to Ladybones Road and re-entered the school. Finally, I clicked on Opportunity deck and saw some new cards I haven’t seen before.

  5. I tried to relaunch the app, but it stuck on loading.

  6. I went back to browser, confirmed that I am ready to lose my app’s progress, and got the error page.

  7. I mailed support and they kindly unlocked me, however the app still doesn’t work correctly inside the school. Moreover, if I visit school in browser and then try to login in the app, the app is getting stuck on loading. However as soon as ai leave the school in browser, the app works ok again.

Ah, that would explain it. I was in the middle of doing the finishing school when i had to hit the road for holiday travel. I then tried to resume using the app, which led to the current predicament.

Yeah, the school seems to be broken in the app. The app isn’t recognizing it as a separate card hand from London or as having unlimited card draw, and all the London global storylets appear in the school.

Yes, the same for me exactly. I was in the middle of a Finishing School storylet when I tried to make the switch from the browser to the app. Thank you for solving the mystery, dear Dima! I only hope it can be corrected soon.

Just to update: Still haven’t heard anything from support, account is still locked out.

It is still a national holiday in the UK, I think. No reason why anyone should be in the office to respond. (Although it must be very frustrating!)

It would be really great to have an official announcement as soon as the bug is fixed. Can’t wait to educate someone.

Now I wonder how badly my experience of the Empress’ Shadow was affected by this issue and if I should kindly ask FBG to restart the story for me.

According to support the bug is fixed now.
