They say it was born from the unkept vows of the Neath’s many kings. Supposedly its eyes were stolen from a tiger, and its tongue from a snake. Does it really dine on the hands of master cracksmen?
Greetings everyone, and welcome to the first Mr Hexed item giveaway. From the 13th to the 26th, I’ll be sending 210 first city coins to a randomly chosen person. Only those who sign up for it here (or send an in-game message to the appropriate person asking to sign up) will be eligible. If you somehow get picked every single time, that’s like getting 68250 pence for nothing. Accepting them costs no actions, so there’s no reason to not sign up!
If you think this is a fun idea, please contribute. I’m actually in rather desperate need of a social partner who could send me requests to rob the Museum of Mistakes. I did, er, possibly obtain over 2,000 coins by sending requests from an alternate account before I knew that was an incredibly bad thing to do. But now I’m a reformed criminal, and as a reformed criminal I swear to only ever burglarize responsibly. Farming coins through other means is possible but extremely slow, effectively killing future giveaways without your help. Which is a shame, since the next giveaway will be done entirely in character. No, you won’t be speaking with Mr Hexed. It’ll be his ratty companion, Longtail, who greets you next. He’s a rat who loves to tell tales - and some of them are even true! Through him, you could put the pieces together on just who Mr Hexed might be. That is, if a few of you could spare several thousand cryptic clues. If you wish to help, send your robbery requests to Mr Hexed here. Huge credit will constantly be given to those who help most!

Both my main and my variousalts are willing to help out with buglarizing museums, if you are able to send requests to them. edited by Vavakx Nonexus on 10/6/2017
This is a great idea and I’d love to participate! Sadly, I have moved past the Museum of Mistakes already, so I cannot help you there. I would be delighted to assist you in any other social action you might desire, however.
It’s not, unless something’s changed recently. Quite a few players use alts for social actions like menace cures, second chances sources, and even profitable actions like The Neath’s Mysteries. Sure, Failbetter wouldn’t be happy if you had twenty alts working together to constantly rob the Museum of Mistakes and funnel money to your main, but using alts in moderation is generally fine.
I’m in the same position as ExceptionallyDelicious and Lady Sapho. I am long past the Museum of Mistakes story. If there is anything you need other than that, I would be happy to participate. (In fact, feel free to send me social actions anyway!)
Sign me up for the coin giveaways! I have a modest pile of several hundred coins, and I am in awe of your immense store of transferable wealth.
I am well past the point where I could’ve sent museum burglary requests. For those who don’t know when that is, it’s an early stage in the Heart’s Desire ambition.
Tangent: Also available at that point in the story is the option to spend 1 cp of connected: Masters and gain 50 first-city coins. If that option stayed open, Mr Wines’s revels would be actually worthwhile (because the point of connected: Masters could be repeatedly exchanged for £12.50 in transferable wealth), but it becomes unavailable for… no particular reason, really. Once the player character has enough coins to advance the ambition, the game just assumes we’d never want to gather any more of the things. edited by Anchovies on 10/6/2017
The simple solution is to just off-load some coins when you have more than 76.
I’m at the content limit in Heart’s Desire, but I can access the Museum /use the Master options because I only have thirty of the things (I keep using them for ready cash.)
So sure, I’ll send along a request if you post your Profile. edited by Teaspoon on 10/6/2017
I’d be happy to get First-City Coins, though I’m probably not going the most worthy recipient. I like to amass 2000 of each item, insofar as you can do so without dedicated grinding, so I have around 600 First City Coins lying around.

I had thought otherwise. Amazing! I’d love to help with some museum robberies. My profile is linked in my signature, and also right here.
They can’t keep the past locked up forever! Let there be a Liberation of Coins!
I won’t say no to free coins, but I’m not the best person to donate them to, having a fair few already. I would get rid of them to aid your cause… but I want to keep them.
I’m pleasantly surprised at how positive people are about the giveaway. I was honestly afraid there’d be no interest, and that nobody would volunteer to be a social partner. Yet here we are, and already several people want to help. Anyway, those who would like to send robbery requests can send them to Mr Hexed here. I can’t receive requests while I’m already hunting for coins, but I’ll try to keep myself available for requests as much as possible.
Reminder to everyone that you should explicitly sign up for the giveaway. I can’t imagine why someone would go through the effort of posting a reply without wanting free goodies, but then again I can’t imagine a lot of things. If your forum name is different from your Fallen London name, then it’d be helpful to give that too.
The current list of entrees is: Lady Sapho Byron, DavidJ (for ExceptionallyDelicious), Optimatum, TeslaWalker, Lionel Anchovies (for Anchovies), Saklad5, Kylestien, John Moose, Mycroft Tennyson, and Ginneon Thursday. edited by Longtail on 10/8/2017
We’re one day away from the giveaway. People who haven’t signed up yet can still sign up any time during the giveaway. Lurkers who don’t want to create a forum account to sign up can also send an in-game message here. The current list of entrees is: Lady Sapho Byron, DavidJ (for ExceptionallyDelicious), Optimatum, TeslaWalker, Lionel Anchovies (for Anchovies), Saklad5, Kylestien, John Moose, Mycroft Tennyson, Ginneon Thursday, and Percie. If you’re not in that list, then you’re not signed up.
So far I’ve gotten exactly one request to rob the museum. For anyone still interested in sending requests, the easiest way to do this is to send many requests at once. Once they’re sent, I can slowly accept and complete them one at a time without you having to lift a finger. Each time a request is accepted, 400 cryptic clues are removed from your inventory. The quickest way I know of for farming cryptic clues is through using Interview the Department of _______ staff to build up ‘Investigating…’, and then cashing the ‘Investigating…’ in at Raid a Message-Drop. Each giveaway needs at least 91 requests, or 36,400 total cryptic clues. Sadly, requests can only be sent by people very early in the Heart’s Desire ambition. If you really, really want to help out but don’t qualify in-game, you can always create a new alt with the sole purpose of sending in requests. That would only be an incredible pain in the neck, so I imagine lots of people would love to do that. Unless told to keep your request donations anonymous, I will be posting your name and total contributions on the next giveaway.
In other news, I accidentally marked the first post as an ‘accepted answer’ and gave it a light green background. Is there any way to undo that? Green isn’t exactly the most… fitting color for one like Mr Hexed.
Silly me - Leonine Veteran is the account participating, seeing as John Moose is already locked up NORTH. Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for reminding to clarify. First batch of robbery invites sent. :)
