I was thinking I’d stand aside and let some new folks experience the cider. I had my time in the sun. So don’t let my past bidding deter you from participating in this year’s auction.
If we could offer up our inventory items to aid the charity I’d totally do it. I’ve got some spare Mr Eaten’s calling cards I wouldn’t mind parting with for a good cause like this.
I’d totaly do it too, but the only thing I have worth anything is a Ubergoat.
TBH, I think you should go for it though. I mean it’s for charity, and you sold your Cider for a goat that while one of a kind does nothing. I think you earned a CIder. Or at least a cool goat based action with your goat.

Hi all–yes, these are donated by FBG who are awesome, and yes, female pronouns for me. The link to last time got munged by the bullet point bug:
http://con-or-bust.org/2014/02/hesperidean-cider-in-fallen-london/
And there’s no automatic bidding or anything like that, so if you want, toss in a bid and drop out whenever, and if you don’t, that’s okay too!
Let me know if I can answer any other questions!
Can you persuade Failbetter to auction off some old stuff like a Handsome Lad with a Healthy Appetite or perhaps an Archaeologist’s Hat? :P
Being the hoarder I am, any of the currently unattainable items like the Ship in a Bottle would also appeal to me.
Oooh yes, the Miniature Model Ship, Monstrous Orb, M. Demaux’s Advice for Captains - there’s a whole untapped market here!
The River in a Box and Gilded Crustacean would be cool to get, but those feel slightly more unique in a way that wouldn’t lend itself to auctions.

Y’all, your enthusiasm is welcome, but I asked, FBG offered two very awesome things, and I’m not about to trespass on their generosity any further!
Just wanted to say, good ocelot, if I had a tasty rat on hand I’d offer it. I really like that cause you and FBG are helping. Been a fan like forever, and I love that you’re helping fandom.
Seriously, a rat – if I had one. Heck, maybe I’ll log in and send you a whole bag.
(in fact my spouse and I are off to Nauticon this very weekend)
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply any pressure. I’m more just throwing out ideas for Failbetter here - I and many others would be willing to pay for retired items, whether through Fate or a charity event like this.
I saw this thread and I thought, great an opportunity to contribute to charity and maybe get an in game benefit. I just read the mission statement of the “Charity” we are supporting and I think its at best well meaning but incredibly frivolous, and at worst one of the most condescending organizations I’ve seen in a while.
I’m not sure how people of color are denied access to conventions. Maybe if the organization screened for income level then I could understand this, but as it stands absolutely anyone can apply for funding.
I’m Puerto Rican and white as a sheet. I’m pretty sure my relatives would be dark enough to qualify for a grant by the organization, but I’m not sure why on earth they would need to. They’re hard working economically successful people who are perfectly capable of going to conventions without somebody’s idea of help.
AnotherAccount, I realize that it’s not apparent from my forum posts, but Con or Bust is run by people of color/non-white people for people of color etc., and no condescension is intended. I realize that people can reasonably disagree on the best ways to increase racial diversity in fandom, however, or the priority one puts on that, and I hope we can leave it at that, since this forum isn’t really the place to go into more detail. Thanks.
How many people have obtained cider in game, without auctions? It would take something like 1.5 years to earn that much through grinding, wouldn’t it?
You can see a list here of the people who have Hesperidean Cider. I’m pretty sure most of the people on that list are those who have acquired it through grinding (NiteBrite sold theirs, and I forget the name of the person who obtained it through a Kickstarter reward).

The other person wasn’t an auction, it was the Silver Tree Kickstarter, I think?
Yep, that’s how they got it. My mistake.
I thought someone also got Cider through the SS Kickstarter?
I checked the SS Kickstarter page, but I don’t see any mention of cider there.
Huh, I’ve never seen the actual KS before. What are the silver leaves FL characters could get?
Apparently the silver leaves unlock a new social action. Anyone know what it does for both people?
Apparently the silver leaves unlock a new social action. Anyone know what it does for both people?
I sent you one. I’ve no idea what it gives the recipient, but the sender’s rewards are modest.
