Commiseration: Our most painful failures

Ugh. Was not expecting a stealth nerf to the Private Rooms after all this time… I thought they were trying to get more people into subscribing EF?

This is no-where near as bad as some of the others but recently I was trying a watchful challenge at 90% and I failed 5 times. The RNG must hate me at times.

I too have noticed this change. Not so long ago I managed to gain 450 smiles from the Private Rooms, (for a very good cause, I must add). I hope it wasn’t my actions that have caused this option to be nixed.

Actually I am not sure if there are any uncapped sources of Second Chances now - the Benefactor is capped as well :(

I do wish the cap was higher though, and I am not entirely sure why they are capped at all. This is going to make it a lot more difficult to get things like Impossible Theorems - which needs 9 Sudden Insights.

Forced my scandal up to 8, went to tomb colonies. Before realising that I had no tincture of vigour to catch the tomb lion… Anyone feel free to dump Scandal over here…

Hopefully Christmas cards will still be uncapped…

I’ve been grinding up Elder items for an Antique Mystery and accidentally converted 50 Mysteries of the Elder Continent into Incendiary Gossip instead of the Presbyterate Passphrases I need. I’ve only been playing a couple weeks, though, so if that’s my worst slip-up…

I’ve only scratched the surface during my previous incarnation in the game and have not got too far this time yet, so there isn’t much to say about my fairly few serious misadventures… except one. The one.
In short: Once-Dashing Smuggler. Misclicked.
Not all that serious, I know, but it did make me quit, so I gues that counts.
(The best part is that the relationship could be salvaged, but I didn’t know that at the time).

You can continue to side convert the 50 x Incendiary Gossip into 51 x Memory of Distant Shore, then convert 50 of those into 51 x Brilliant Souls, etc. until you end up again with 51 x Mysteries of the Elder Continent. Should take you 12 actions.

See table here.

Not a failure exactly, but why is it that I used to get useless Relicker cards all the time while I was building up scraps and now that I have more than 680 they’ve suddenly disappeared without a trace? It’s like they know how keen I am to get my final item from that tier…

The RNG. She is a cruel mistress.
But if the past is any indication, posting about a card not showing up usually causes it to show up!

Not yet :( Fingers crossed!

They shut me down at Newgate for no reason at all and I lost all my much-grinded &quotConnected: Society&quot and &quotConnected: Constables&quot! ARRGH!!! As is if it was not enough I said something ambiguous to the gaoler and lost all my &quotConnected: Criminals&quot!!! What’s wrong with this Newgate?! Why does this place keep stripping me of my connections?!

What can I say… F for Fail Better:(

P.S.
And when there was the Feast of Exceptional Rose I just came into the game and didn’t bother to take part in it alltogether thinking it was there just to distract me from much more important things: stupid low-level grinding, playing chess on the river, doing time at NG, and so forth.

After spending several DAYS trying to get my alt imprisoned with Brass Embassy heists at 50%, I found myself with 17 Casing on my main, decided to cash it in… and failed at 90%. Whither goest thou, Connected: Hell 60?

While On a Heist, I accumulated 12 Burgler’s progress since I couldn’t draw the prize card, and I lost all my Cat-like trend. I also failed the luck check and got hit with 9 suspicion.

I’m probably the 1000th person or so to pull the old ‘Get deliberately exiled to the Tomb-Colonies to catch a Tomb-Lion, but forgot to bring Tincture of Vigor’ trick… but that doesn’t make it smart any less. Especially since I used a particularly awesome and one-time-only route to get there - the romance at the Imperial Court. Pulling something so spectacular to get exiled, and then realizing once you’re there (AND have drawn the somewhat-rare card) that you forgot the bait… GAAAAAAAHH!! >.<

The past few weeks have not been kind to me. First I forgot to equip my Watchful mood before converting Incunabulum into Enigmas, resulting in 2 double-failures at 80% odds (equipping the mood would have only taken it up to 87%, but still…) Then there was the business in this thread, wherein I forgot that it takes seven Notability to get M_____'s B____ instead of five, so I burned my Favorable Circumstances on an Airag at the last minute.

The first time I went to Zee. I was so excited to get my new Clipper, I set out straight away… only to receive the update, &quot’Casing…’ has been reset: a conclusion, or a new beginning?&quot

This was before I started checking the wiki for potential resets. I had thought the three in the description were the ones reset. Losing 60 LEVELS of Casing was tough, especially after spending weeks grinding it for my next residence. It made my first trip to zee somewhat bitter-sweet…

For another similar failure, not long after that, I ground Dramatic Tension to 3. This was the first time I got it at Wilmot’s End and I had expected DT to behave similar to Casing (for some stupid reason), and had to face palm after it was reset.

Needless to say I always check new options in advance before playing them these days. It does take the fun out of it, but I did those two within a week or two of each other, and that has somewhat biased me since…

So I’ve first come here onto the forum due to the incandescent, apoplectic rage at my most common and constant failure - the inability to keep my blossoming insanity under control without scandalising society at large. It begins, as it does in the neath, with everyday transactions that cause it’s insidious tendrils to infiltrate my mind. The only relief from this seems to be a cup of hot wine at the good Mrs Plenty’s Carnival, yet even the most minor bout of nightmares necessitates a half-dozen cups of wine. I leave the refreshment pavilion less twitchy but with the contemptuous stares of my fellow rabble-rousers for having imbibed too much. I attempt to remedy this by attending regular church services which ironically INCREASES the scandal society at large inflicts upon me.

Kind of depressing when all your actions are spent just trying to keep your character in the damn game. This constant failure is, I state, not mine, but a &quotflawed&quot mechanic that works well to the benefit of FBG who reap your hard-earned actions for the dullest of dull grinding…

You need a little help from your friends. Social actions are the way forward - they are by far the most effective way to deal with menaces. Lady Eris is terribly respectable cough and would be only too pleased to help squash those nonsensical little rumours. Drop her a message.
