Coming through with wildly efficient servers?

The spinning hat. The spinning hat. I was getting sick of that…but not any more!

Game has been massively faster to respond to everything all week since about Monday. It’s near-instant for any action now, and the the ‘old’ website is almost playable on iPad.

Hopefully someone found that one tricky performance bug and sorted it out. Or perhaps you just have to burn more sinners to power the database, but either way, this is good stuff. Hopefully it carries through to when new design comes back.

Bit of both I imagine, but yeah I’ve noticed this as well & it’s quite nice :)

My persistent problem with timing out while choosing the subject of certain social actions from among my (large) list of Contacts is gone now. Thank you!

You’re absolutely right - I haven’t had a moment of frustratingly slow gameplay since around that time! Trumpets and cymbals, playing is so much more pleasant now, and I hadn’t quite realised why until you pointed it out.

This is the result of a number of different improvements Henry’s been working on that were included in the same patch. The effects have been pretty dramatic – average latency is now much lower and more consistent:

Good job, Henry. The spinning hat is best seen in moderation.

Thank you. The lag and the on the hour bug were some of the reasons I didn’t enjoy FL as much as I used to. When RL settles down I hope to be able to play some of the Exceptional Stories clogging up my storylets - I didn’t want to run the risk of not being able to echo them.

Huh - some issues also got resolved on my end. Not everything, but I can invite people to a hansom ride. Now, if I manage to send rats or snub inactive acquaintances, all shall be well.

Please give Henry and any/all who work on backend stuff our love! That kind of stuff only tends to be brought up when things aren’t working properly, and I bet they don’t get enough recognition.

Yes, cheers, Henry!

Who’s Henry?

Show yourself, delicious developer!

EDIT: And I wouldn’t mind reading any articles/tutorials (payed if needed) that helped you with this matter! It’s a subject that interests me specially that you need to feed an app with APIs while working with JS frameworks.

Ahh yeah programmers who make things efficient never get enough love. So have some!

Fifthing or sixthing the thanks and congrats to Henry! The Fallen London team is the best. :-)
