Bizarre and insignificant questions in the Neath
If they were dark matter and we interacted with them, they (and us) would explode :P
dark matter is not antimatter. it passes through normal matter all the time

Right. I corrected my post at the same time you were posting :)

If the suns are Judgements in this universe, are the Masters dark matter? M_____’_ B____ hints towards this.
Definitely not. We interact with the Masters on a regular basis.
Why is that? Who is to say that creative liberties were not taken, just as they were taken with stars in this universe? Stars don’t do half the things they do here. Masters are very concerned with &quotThe space between stars&quot. Perhaps they are members of a race of countless individuals who maintain and hunt the space between stars? Dark matter has many associations with gravity and space itself, and one of the theories of the universe is that dark matter is accelerating the growth of the &quotspace between stars&quot.

EDIT: smacks forehead Wait, no, I’m thinking of anti-matter. Shut up, Kukapetal!

On the other hand, if they were dark matter, we wouldn’t see them at all, and they wouldn’t be able to put on robes (dark matter only interacts via gravity).

We are talking about beings who can rewrite the laws of physics, so that wouldn’t really apply.

How is the surface handling open knowledge of the things that happen in the Neath? Religion dealing with a place where death can be an annoyance rather than an end. Why is there not a flood of people into the Neath, especially those who fear death?

As far as I can tell, the response among most of the population is…to assume all reports are lies because they are too outrageous.

Also there’s the minor problem of not being able to leave (or burning up upon return) for those that spend too long there.
Also there’s the minor problem of not being able to leave (or burning up upon return) for those that spend too long there.
that and the giant squids in suits among other weird and wonderful things that occur in the Neath would probably scare a lot of people off (particularly if they all share the same Victorian mind-set still and time isn’t just passing really slowly in the neat for unexplained reasons)

super whiny voice But I still don’t know why worshiping the Dawn Machine turns your teeth red!!

I can’t kiss the Visionary until I know :P

Perhaps it’s a mark of loyalty and devotion. Or something more sinister.
How is the surface handling open knowledge of the things that happen in the Neath? Religion dealing with a place where death can be an annoyance rather than an end. Why is there not a flood of people into the Neath, especially those who fear death?
Perhaps there already was a huge rush of people recently when London first fell? It’s been thirty years, after all, the influx would be long over by now. Perhaps London is much larger now than it ever used to be due to all the mystique surrounding the Neath on the surface? From how it is described and just how many souls seem to be involved in the soul trade, and even then only 1/10th of the population ever being soulless, it seems like a great many people live here.

The Neath is probably common knowledge by now, probably making worldwide news in the months following London’s fall. The Church on the surface probably has copies of all of the alterations done by the Church of the Neath, and largely ignores the topic unless specifically brought up by people, to which they probably say to earnestly pray for their brothers and sisters in the Neath, for they are literally among devils.

Surface powers simply see another playing field for the Great Game, and the Neath is probably making all kinds of waves in the scientific community. It’s probably seen as a fabulous novelty to the rich and high society, and the common folk likely have a mix of not caring because they can’t afford a trip there, are terrified of such a notion, or simply don’t believe it.

Overall, life on the surface probably largely goes on as usual, and the Church either pretends the place doesn’t exist most of the time or treats it as evidence that it’s doctrines are truth.

Devils seem to be form or influenced by the future - so are their other areas of the neath that reflect future culture?

How did the Clayman made the Hieress a statue? Could the Literally Staturesque Hieress be made/animated into a Clay woman form? What about with the Flint content tea that animates a statue?

I think we might blame surface powers and the illegal nature in many of the neath wonders. In Sunless Sea, for the Masters’ technology used in Cumaean Canal, they say &quotthe Surface nations play down the fact&quot. And parabola-linen crumbles in sunlight, while prisoner’s honey loses all the effects. For a common surface dweller, all seems to go against the rumours of the Neath. But whether they have such strong effects to hold people back from pursuing immortality, I can’t tell.

Another question, more related to sunless sea, but something I am -super- curious about.

What is in the Monkey Emperor’s Wrath?

For anyone that doesn’t know, if you decide to steal the Zeppelin from the Pentecost Apes, part of getting close to them is delivering a box of documents to February.

We don’t know what’s in the box, but it apparently fills February with Glee, and sends London into flames. Whatever you brought to The Fifth City has made you so hated that you should never return, for if you do, “No living tongue has words to precisely convey your suffering.”

What’s in the box!?
