That just means you should go through the forums more frequently.
it resets daily, though, or my number would be much higher than 15 (since it includes SS forums, and i don’t actually go there.) As such, hitting 77 is unusual and notable. It’s still a silly post, but i don’t think that mean either you or i have the right to rain on their parade.
They’re never recorded as read when I visit the website. Currently I have 261 unread topics despite checking it daily.
If you have the forums tab closed, then quit out of your browser and restart, it will reset you to 0 unread topics. I use it when the number gets high enough to unreasonably irritate me.
Currently at 506 - the usual trick of closing the forums doesn’t seem to be working, since the number stays consistent no matter what computer or phone I use.
2885 topics here and I know I’ve since that number cleared in the past few weeks!
Mine seems to reset daily at 6-8 pm, and i don’t close my browser then- but it might just be me. We knew the forum software the devs bought was erratic, after all.
Mine only resets when I log in in another computer. Like I’m doing right now.
Mine resets daily, but then I read all the topics so I’m not sure if that’s what makes the difference. I generally use it to figure out what’s been posted while I’m gone to check for spam and such, especially since the forum is busy enough now that Recent Posts won’t cover everything anymore.
I just thought the number/topic combo was cute/funny
It was, so don’t be discouraged by the conversation which has followed. ^_^
(Though I’d often been wondering about that stuff myself, as I could never quite figure out how it decided when I’d read topics that had been updated.)

my guess is a lot of arbitrary things.
I think it has the following bugs:
A) it’s sensor for having read the thread is often inaccurate. whatever it is in doubt, it fails unread, rather than read. fair enough, but not how i’d want it. Multitabbing often casts it into doubt, as well as other things.
B) The developer of the forum didn’t want new accounts to have [entire history of the forum] unread topics, and may have wanted X time unit purges as well, or accidentally included purges for the same reason. Some accounts never trip this, others trip it daily. probably related to browser, net provider, or something similar, since mine purges nightly, even if i stay logged in, while others do other things.
There’s probably more things, but we know the forum is sub-optimal. take [the word that will wake you from the dream]. try to make a post with it- see what happens. That one is deliberate, but there are probably a lot of hasty patches like that one- like how, if you make a post, make a second post, edit the first one to contain [the word that will wake you from the dream], it will apparently delete the second post, instead of the first!
It is. Personally, I have little love for "cute/funny", but then, if I were in charge of the forums, there’d be a subforum for analysis of /profitability/efficiency/optimization/, and most people go TL;DR for that stuff- I have no right to judge! If you’d have liked to read a thread on X, feel free to make one. As long as it’s not on the decensored form of Kth*n supplies. in that case, don’t make that. make one on cooking supplies in the neath instead.

I happened to send my very first ever post to the fl community in the middle of that __storm…
…mine was a fl beginner’s question about economies…
… which got left unanswered and with my reputation ruined at 1 -1.
Happy days. I’m back to being consigned as a passive reader.
And, yes, I would like to read a subforum on the analysis of profitability/efficiency/optimisation, if such a forum existed.

It does, in fact, have an answer- according to the forum, it was posted 19 hours ago.
[A warning- while you may see flurries of activity, the forum isn’t crawling with people, and different forums have different levels of activity. I tend to avoid the salons just because there’s only so many debates on the nature of X, Y and Z before you decide you’d rather give another mechanical explanation. Don’t assume it’s been ignored until 24 hours have passed.]
Anyways, that wasn’t a stupid question- and you should ignore ratings, i’ve seen very bad posts- even outright wrong ones- with positive scores, and excellent posts with 0. [that said, your score seems to have been set to +1 at the moment.]
If at any point, you want an in-depth mechanical analysis, ask on the forums or PM me. I can’t do anything fate-locked, though.
Yes, I can see now it did get an answer. An interesting answer, even.
I wouldn’t usually extend my gameplay into social networked media.
My preference is for hermetic parser games where “you” is in the cave/spaceship/room and > hug is a non sequitur.
But with fl, I think, the gameplay does need more. So the wiki is a big reach for me - I will have to get used to its mechanics.
I do feel more encouraged about it now, thank you.
