If you’re upgrading to one of the 5-notability professions (which is the final tier), then I believe the answer is no. =) Sestina just did this recently, advancing from Author to Correspondent.
I am not sure about the 2-notability professions. Those are from the Unsigned Message too, aren’t they? (I’m not sure because Sestina went from Journalist to Author via another route).
Nope, the 2-Notability professions don’t eat your Notability either.
