I’ve concocted a very risky plan to advance SMEN over christmas and I need a sanity check from other players to make sure everything I want to do is actually possible and I haven’t forgotten anything.
Having reached SMEN 21 and 7 scars/memories/stains I now need to obtain six betrayals (assuming I get the seventh at mahogany hall) and in lieu of having other players help me I’m aiming to create six nomen as soon as the wicket opens, spending a total of 18 ToL; then I was planning on quickly getting St Arthur’s and St. Beau’s immediately after by giving up my lodgings (while immediately buying back my salon), the reason for this haste being that if I manage to do all of this before the wicket closes I can buy a Reservation again and upgrade it to the Suite for ToL.
I’ve created a spreadsheet to keep track of what I need and need to do and I’m keeping it updated as I get the required items; feel free to check it out for your own reference, but I would appreciate it if you pointed out any errors or oversights on my part (I have a pretty big margin of error, thanks to my stash of darkdrop coffee and my three vials of tears, but I would feel really dumb if I were to fail and be forced to hunt an impossible theorem or part with my vial of master’s blood just to keep one 5-card lodging :VV)
A quick glance looks like the math works out. Make sure you’ve given yourself time and and means to get a visit from the Merry Gentleman to get a new room at the Royal Beth.
I’m left with the question of why.
Are you betraying Nomen for the thrill of it? Respectable. Because you don’t have anyone else to betray? That’s often what alts are made for; it’s relatively quick work to get an alt to a betrayable state.
And given this frantic work, why a new 5 card lodging? If you’re seeking, the benefits are limited unless you intend to abandon your search for the Name. For most of what you want to do a remote address is probably more than adequate.
Mostly, I’m doing this for the hell of it. Creating alts seems too cheaty and I’ve already gotten a Noman tattoo so I have no use for ToL anyway. As for the lodging, I’m not actually in a rush to finish seeking and I have a few projects I’d like to complete before killing my character so having 5-cards will come in handy to store moods and useless frequent cards, plus my opportunity deck will be much slimmer anyway, without all the useless lodgings cards.
Yay, another one planning a Nomen massacre. Though I also plan on a Noman tattoo and on taking a slushy with me (oh well, an alt) North, because I read somewhere that if you never log in, TtH won’t actually melt it.
Why not use a Noman for Cerise’s candle as well, 7 is the better number for the occasion after all.
Hm, if you only got 21 today, you’ll have SMEN 26 rather than the 27 you’d need for Cerise on the 5th after Arthur and Beau.
However, if you can procure another pail from the Urchins until then, you could use Day 9 to gain a point in SMEN instead of the snow (assuming same options as previous years).
Actually I got to 21 some time ago, if I’m not wrong if I manage to get every point of SMEN afforded by Tth I should get to 25 just in time for January 3rd, before getting any candle.
If you want to get Lodgings from the Wicket, you might be better off just getting a Remote Address. They’re both cheaper and effectively hold more useless cards than a five-card lodging.
My feeling remote address vs 5 cards is that it’s largely a matter of personal preference. The profit difference is largely negligible when taking into account the Nadir, being able to hold to more of certain cards like Crime or Punishment for maximal use, etc.
There’s very few situations these days where you need to hold more than two cards, now that most of the conflict cards only consume two favours. Unless you have two mood cards and something else, it’s typically better.
The most common situation for me is back luck drawing Call in Flavors in the Flit, where I’ve got 7 revolutionaries flavors and a bunch of revolutionaries flavor generating cards in my hand.
