So recently in class, we learned about the so-called "Bactro-Margiana Archaeological Complex", which is a bit of a mouthful way of referring to the Bronze Age culture that existed in Bactria and the Margiana, areas above Iran and Afghanistan in modern-day Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
One group of artefacts associated with that culture is that of the "Bactrian Princesses", composite figurines of steatite and calcite, with very fine yet vague facial features and wide, bellowing gowns that give them a certain spectral quality.
Now, my question is - who does this Bactrian princess make you think of? (Yes, I am aware it’s a loaded question.)
