About a popular song

Oh cool, where is that from? Does that come up during the SMEN story line?

Sorry,
I put the [ ] on so you’ll know it’s made up. Thought it was obvious… :p

Apologies, I’m an unobservant idiot. :P

Oh God I do know it! I was surprised to read that it was a real nursery song, then I listened to it and even though I’ve never heard the lyrics the melody is extremely familiar. I’m sure I must have had a music box or something playing it. (For the info, I grew up in France and Germany. Well, mostly France, but my aunt in Germany whom I visited regularly had a music box and I suspect it might have been this one.)

This is a song with many regional variants. In the time and place I was a boy, we learned the second verse thus:

“Five cents for a spool of thread
A dollar for an easel
That’s the way the money goes.
Pop! Goes the weasel.”

Must have been inflationary times.

– Mal

That’s actually the verse that made me add ‘That’s the way the pennies go’ to the second one I found.
easel - weasel, and a reference to money
