A profitable grind for Spirifers?

[quote=Kalil]Slightly off topic, but I didn’t want to create a new thread to ask… I’m a recent arrival to the city (~20 stats), and a… friend of mine has asked for 50 (normal) souls. I’m not really sure how to acquire them, as I’m far from having the ‘unfinished business’ option. Any suggestions?

There are two cards that could be a source of souls at such a low level (though, since they’re cards they’re unreliable by definition)

  • A stray consignment of souls (Unlocked with Shadowy 9 - 39) - &quotSneak in and make away with something while they haggle&quot will give 24[/li][li]An implausible penance (Unlocked with: Connected: Criminals 10) - &quotThe smugglers’ grave&quot -> &quotOne stone in a thousand&quot gives 250 souls

Both should have around 50% chance of a success.

Commission: Immortalise Jack-of-Smiles in a Penny Dreadful! -> They asked for it. They want blood? Give them blood!

You can get 12x Soul from it, although it will probably take quite many actions, but this one only requires 15 Persuasive.
There simply isn’t a efficient source of Souls until 50+ Watchful.[/quote]

bows
Thank you both for the advice.

Okay, I’m back with 1,000 results recorded and calculated into an average: 59.966 Souls per action. It seems the estimate of 60 souls per action through Unfinished Business is accurate.

…I feel I must salute your dedication, Sara. The willingness to put in that kind of work to confirm an otherwise-unfounded (but nonetheless likely) assumption requires a rare sort of morality.

Anyway, I suppose the final conclusion is that grinding souls from ‘The Prince Of…’ and converting them to brass via the Infernal Fence is, indeed, more profitable than any of the non-fate-locked grinding-options… and only becomes more so if you obtain some souls from other, more efficient sources.

I believe I shall be spending some time doing just that, then, so that I might upgrade all of my gear to the ‘400-ish Echoes’ tier. Then I shall be ready to face the Neath!

Think nothing of it; my spirifer was already grinding souls through that action, so all it took was a bit of time to set up the spreadsheet. It also took far less time than my similar goal of recording 1000 Deep Blue Heaven expeditions, which I’m only about halfway done with.

I keep track of all unfinished business results that I do, I’ve clocked in 514 results at 59.45 souls per action.

I won’t be recording any more results though, even if I do more of the grind, the columns in my table end perfectly at SZ, and I’d rather they end there than at 500 results (I increased the table to 1,000 results for a while, but that disheartened me, too much empty space).

For reference, I’m the one who put the soul trade epa up on the wikia. Although, I realise it’s wrong… I’m not including a fraction of an action for cashing in the connected: Hell… Nor was I including the actual worth of hell change points (I was dividing not multiplying).

My math for it is (3000+152[appalling secrets]+302[30cp Hell])/(1000/59.5[soul average]+1[cashing in souls]+.053/41.25[chance of failuresuspicion cpsocial actions to get rid of it]+0.125[action cashing in Hell]) for 171.87 ppa, let’s call it 172 ppa for the wiki. I had previously listed 174 ppa on the wiki.
