A Belated Farewell (and extension business)

I’ve been meaning to post this for a while now but kept putting it off. Now, with the UI update looming, it’s about time I got off my butt and did it.

I quite Fallen London a few months ago. I was basically out of things to do if I didn’t want to grind for a Heptagoat. And I didn’t. It’s been quite the journey involving some memorable stories and a great deal of grinding. I even feed 3 different characters to the Mr. Eaten quest and was up to date on the Ambition That Shall Not Be Named at the time I quite (I don’t know if more has been added since). Thanks to everyone who was a part of that journey. It’s been a delight.

This brings me to the business of the Goat Farmer’s Browser Extension, which I allegedly maintain. I say allegedly because I haven’t had time to keep on top of the extension in the past few years, and with my departure I’m not even watching the forums for bug reports anymore. To make matters worse, the looming UI update is almost certainly going to cause the whole thing to burst into flames (Side Note: if you have the extension installed and you have trouble with the new UI PLEASE disable/remove the extension and refresh the page before contacting support). So what does the future hold for those who collect vast wealth in the pursuit of unreasonably expensive things?

Honestly, I don’t know. But to hopefully not leave everyone in the cold I’ve uploaded the extension’s Javascript and CSS to this GitHub respository, along with examples of the manifests used to create the extension in each browser. Gaze in horror upon my terribly code! Recoil at my use of JQuery! Feel free to pack this code into your own extensions, fork it, whatever you like. I’ll try to pay attention to pull requests and update the extensions with them, but I’m on to other things and not making any promises so please don’t be offended if I seem to be ignoring you. I spend enough of my day reading change sets and verifying that they work as it is.

I hope things have been going well in the neath since my departure. Wishing you all the best.

An Individual

You have your first fork! If you’re willing to take PRs and publish updates I’ll get to work on this alongside updating my own extensions after launch.

Sorry to see you go, but it sounds like you’ve done as much as it’s possible to do. Goat Farmer has been incredibly useful to me — as a player, of course, and also as a basis when I started thinking about extending FL’s interface myself. So many thanks, and good luck!

This was my first extension ever. Thank you!
