Not sure, but with the nightmares 5 shortcut I'm sure this is a lot faster, assuming you encountered the bird enough times to start the pursuit without wasting a lot of actions.
Unrelated, but I just tried training the second student in the lab (the one you can hire after 5) and the action to train her requires 25 research to play but actually takes off 50. Not sure if intended but that means you're better off always doing it at 25. Possibly mislabeled?

On the Albatross research, [spoiler]the second option only unlocks a further (very long) research stage, it doesn't actually give the promised unique item. And the stage after that gives something that does nothing. Just says it may have some use in the future.[/spoiler]
Also, has anyone found a use for the survey data?
Concerning the Bone Market, I haven't found the Surface Bloom needed for the gunpowder, but I don't have a way to reduce my Bizarre/Dreaded to zero yet so I can't actually see all the options. I found a Respectable -8 companion and Dreaded -2 one as well as Bizarre -3 clothes. Considering I have the Boneless Consort, Young Stags' Club, and two Dreaded tattoos, it's nowhere near enough. Anything I've missed that would get me there?

Well that's a kick in the privets.
Look try and find the Dome of Scales, the Possessed Goldfish you can get from there has -4 BDR across the board.
I'm trying to leave to go and Buy a Lucky Weasel, but the game won't let me out of the Dome now all the options are barred.
Edit: and as it turns out, the servers have fallen over.

The servers crashed on me before I could try my chance at it, but before they did I managed to get a card that payed Preserved Surface Blooms by having no Respectable.
Edit: Pretty sure I'm going to need a Holy Relic of the Thigh of Saint Fiacre.

Help required. I now have three assistants, including the Fate Companion. Now I cannot undertake the Bone research. If I dismiss, say, Lettice,so I can do the Bone thing, can I get her back or is she gone for good?

If your Monstrous Anatomy or Kataleptic Toxicology are at 5, there are investigations at the Lab that let you increase the cap to 6 (and presumably, there will be one that raises it to 7 after that).
Each cost a significant amount of resources to start, and 300 Laboratory Research and 50 Parabolan Research to complete.
