Alternatively, the end of the quest is going North, finding the well that Mr Eaten drowned in, and discovering a Cheerful Goldfish swimming around in it. That is the reward.
NiteBrite sent me a candle, eeeee~!

Yep. It slashes the sender's stats by an enormous but variable amount, hits the recipient for about five levels in everything, and gives them the candle. It may not be a variable amount - it may be that it sets each stat to half what it currently is including the bonus from your equipment. At least that appears to be what all of mine ended up at. But it does give the recipient the Candle.
I always laughed at people saying we Seekers must be mad to do this, but this is the first time I really feel mad for Seeking.
What will St. E----'s Candle cost us?
Damn, that's got to be the most savage requirement yet... What are the various options involved in passing it on, or getting it?I missed the hallowmas, and destiny stuff due to work commitments.

You needed to have confessed an error to one who has the candle and they must choose to let it consume the error which you confessed. As previously stated this is quite a damaging action, particularly for the person choosing to pass the candle on to another. And now we will continue to relish the thoughts of future candle costs.

Yes it was painful to share the candle. Speaking of which I still haven't got St Cerise's Candle and straight K&C is an impossible way to get the tokens to buy a Waxwail Knife as there haven't been any prize token deliveries for so long. The same is true of trying to steal them from other Seekers, so if there is anyone out there with a Waxwail Knife who is prepared to help a Seeker please PM me to arrange a K&C duel.
Edit to add - of course I will return the favour so that the kind person can steal back all other K&C items that are lost with the theft once I have the Candle. edited by reveurciel on 11/16/2013

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

I'm trying to stain my soul but I haven't gotten a card about it. I have 3 Starveling Cats (are these relevant?), 7 Weeping Scars, and 7 Memories of chains. I am currently soulless (though I could fix that if I have to). What do I need to do to progress in the story? I don't want many spoilers (that's why I haven't checked the wiki), just what I need to do to increase SMEN to 8.

You need your soul if you want to stain it. Plus another Starveling Cat, but you're good until the final stain with 3.

I'm new to the forums but I've been a resident for quite sometime now and this name thing intrigues me. Not the pursuit but the fact that you people are doing it. Even if its just a game (a well writen one) it really does not seem worth the time and effort many of you put into it. So why do you pursue it? I mean really, especially after hearing about this destin's candle consequence.

I'm in it for the text, and to experience those consequences for myself. It's been very rewarding, even if it isn't so in terms of material gain.

Well I guess it's because the name and its owner, as well as the mystery surrounding its fate. Who does't love a good adventure with plenty of mystery. yeah its frustrating a lot of the time and I can say that for me personally, quitting has been more than a little tempting. Some people on this thread hve mentioned they are thinking of stopping their pursuit if it means losing half their stats for just one candle (there are supposed to be seven of these things by the way) no all are as costly but there is a good deal of luck and chance involved and we won't get help if a bug gets our character stuck somewhere due to a bug. they mean it when it says they won't help you. As to why I still am pursuing it...I guess it's because other than the ambitions I don't feel like I'm actually working toward something. Those are unfinished and the game doesn't have a real ending written out yet and this pursuit feels like I'm actually moving toward something the fact the the decisions are getting hard to make and the risk of loss has a bit of a sting to it is annoying but enticing. And it might not lead anywhere for awhile (or ever) but there's more than a little to do in the mean time. (this turned out kinda long sorry) That's my two pence. edited by Triblademaster on 11/17/2013

I've just received St Destin's Candle from a very kind source, and am currently polling my confessees to see if any of them are capable of receiving it and of passing it on.
Confirming a 5-level drop across the board for receiving the candle. Sending it ... is going to hurt.
I have Arthur's and Beau's, but Cerise's seems to be basically unattainable. Perhaps there will be another path to it in the future.

Why do we seek the name? Why not - but we are told not to do it there is some brilliant writing it is exciting to see whet Alexis thinks up next it is costly and painful to my character So I guess I'm just a masochist
Edit to add - But I would love it if there was an alternative way to get St Cerise's as the K&C way seems to be impossible unless you were one of the first to gain access to the content. edited by reveurciel on 11/17/2013

I *was* one of the first, and it was still basically impossible unless you were super lucky or had a gang of alts also playing K&C.

I see so I guess not many Seekers actually managed to get the Candle. I so wish that it wasn't tied into K&C as, unless there are still people out there with Prize Tokens or Waxwail Knives that might be stolen, it is going to be impossible to get.

Well, based on Mr Eaten's Twitter posts, at the end of April there were 61 people in a position to try for St Cerise's Candle.
Actual number of St Cerise's Candles available:
([Number of people playing K&C] * [Number of prize tokens given to each player - I think three]) / [44]
To get all of those 61 people to St. Cerise's candle would require there to be just under 900 players of K&C (and for all the prize tokens to end up in Seeker hands, and for no prize tokens ever to be spent on trophies or items).

(and for all the prize tokens to end up in Seeker hands, and for no prize tokens ever to be spent on trophies or items).
And for them to not disappear due to gaining a scar or that last stain. Goodbye, 6 prize tokens.

I Seek because the story is just so intense. It's wonderfully written, chilling, and it actually manages to evoke a lot of feeling from me as the player. How could I not? Even the enormous losses I've sustained and will sustain just feel that much more exciting. I'm dancing with fire.
I understand Seeking isn't for everyone, but it greatly appeals to me. edited by Laluzi on 11/17/2013

For a time, token distributions were happening pretty regularly, so it's much more than 3/player. (But they capped at ~20, so you had to get most of them from stabbing others.)

I seek because it's one of the most atmospheric, exciting parts of the game. I wouldn't be half as hooked on Fallen London if it wasn't for the SMEN plotline.
