Wait, wait, wait... is Rival supposed to let you inherit any weapon your previous captain owned at any point, even if they didn't possess it at the time of their demise?
Cause... I'm staring at the option to inherit the same phenomenal instrument of nightmares I sold to the people of Station V.

Similarly, I've found that Shipmate will let you inherit any officer your previous captain had at any time, even if they've died / left you since.

Yes, but my goal isn't "have the best stats", it's "ascertain the possibility of having slightly better stats in the course of normal, non-stat-oriented play"

Well then yes, you can pass on a starting officer.

Just get the horizon codex. There are better officers.

I don't think you can pass on the officers that come along with your background choice, actually.

I can confirm that you CANNOT transfer a starting officer between Captains. I was not allowed to transfer the plausible surgeon over.

You could, but an upgraded officer (I won't say which one) gives you a great +5 page bonus
Stack that on top of a poet's past and horizon codex and you could start a run with a page score of 80

I'm getting some mixed answers here.
To reiterate, I'm not looking for advice on increasing Pages. I'm asking whether it's possible to inherit a starting officer.

You CANNOT. I just tried it with my save. As I said above, I was not able to transfer the plausible surgeon when I started a new captain.

Question of my own, as the OP said, you can transfer any weapon the Captain has owned.
Does anyone know if that means it's possible to build a Momento Mori, transfer it to the next captain and then make a second one in the new game?

Yes, I did this in my last run; It's how I got both the memento mori and the mechanic's engine.

Mechanics engine is honestly my favorite thing in the game. It's INSANELY powerful. Let me finish the zepplin in almost no time.
Oh, and as a note, i'm pretty sure that even if you fail the heart's check at wisdom you still get a prisoner. edited by real_waffle on 2/13/2015

Really? I could have sworn I was able to pass on the urchin officer.
