Here is my second StoryNexus creation. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you may have on it.
>> Play Maelstrom by clicking this link <<
Maelstrom is a fantastical world of forgotten lore and the age of empire! Since time immemorial people have lived upon islands, just kilometres wide, floating around the sun.
When you are given the opportunity to sail the skies, to trade and to harass pirates with impunity, how long will you last between warring empires, violent rogue states and the horrors of the Maelstrom itself?
This demo, released for World of the Season (Autumn 2012), includes the first island, Portdown. It could be considered the first half of the tutorial.

UPDATE
Six new cards on the Rock, giving ample opportunity for profit and to build a working relationship with the Navy and the criminal class. Includes one very risky but rewarding choice, the start of a future quest line.

Set all sails for The Rock, used the new Interactions to repair my ship, accumulated the trust of some more shady characters until the time for a decisive strike arose. Got me an "especially rare" result.
I like this subplot, although I have to wonder why it was necessary to raise my connection to the criminal elements that high. Good thing I had some left from my trip to the prison brig...
The other cards are mechanically nice and well-written as well, every addition to the rumor economy is welcome, everything you can do in the Open Sky with a skill other than Command is very welcome, and with the lowered repair costs I hopefully don't have to ship around massive amounts of thruster parts just to buy planks ifI go hunt pirates again.
Good work!

Minor typo. When you're at Steppeholt and you choose the pinned card for the ship repairers, the storylet about purchasing a repair ticket says that it will be good "until you leave Greengrass".

Got another instance of the "wrong island arrival" bug. I had started in The Rock, had 9 progress and tried to land on Capital.
I made a screenshot:

Hi! I just started playing recently, and I love the idea and the content! Very cool stuff.
One issue I have run into is ship repair. I currently have Hull Damage of 7, which means essentially I can't fly, since every few draws I lose more sailors. But I can't really get repairs, either, since I have only one Wood. I can spend 1200 gold for one point of repairs, but gold is hard to get, and I've been saving to get the Mercantile Licence. I have enough to buy 3 points, but that still doesn't get me back to flying fitness, and it would use up all the gold I've managed to acquire so far in the game, which would make it feel pretty pointless. If there was a place to buy wood, it would be easy enough to do the repairs, but I haven't found one yet, and trying to get them from the Green Land cards would take forever, and I'd lose all my crew again. So I'm essentially stuck on Capital with no way off. It's a bit frustrating.
Otherwise, though, I'm loving the game!

I'm qiuite enjoying this setting, and I haven't experienced any bugs, so I'm basically just here to compliment Lily Fox for her work^^
Only one thing, shouldn't Reputation: Terrisel Navy be cathegorized under "Reputation" and not "Story" as it is now?

Hi! I'm happy you responded to my commentary about the flotsam so quickly. I'm currently in steppeholt and found a typo. In the description of the "Officer's bar" card, it says "Here officers and adventuresome ladies and gentlemen ladies discuss..." You might want to remove one of the ladies. Oh, and I'm still enjoying the game!

Thank you, HinterDemGlas, for a very useful bug report. It seems this was a case of a miss-set property, which has now been fixed. =) Happy flying!

Alright, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, scoundrels of all ages - I have internet access in my new flat, so development proper can continue!
Now where's that cabin boy with my tea?

Hi Vrie, thanks for playing. =)
Those image-less cards are placeholders. Failbetter's lead artist, Paul Arendt, intends to make those images but for now they appear that way across all worlds.
"I'd probably call this and Samsara the best of the user games I've played." - Best feedback I could imagine receiving, thank you!

UPDATE
- Wine & Liquor are now available to purchase from the restaurant staff's market on Capital. No license is required. - Category 1 licenses (for buying and selling Thruster Parts and Arkhay Relics) are available from the Republic Mercantile Registry offices on Capital. - - Acquiring a license requires a considerable sum of money and favour.
Balancing is... an on-going activity. I've got some ideas for how to make acquiring money not quite so hard in the early game, but they're not going to be implemented overnight.

I've been enjoying the recent updates quite a bit: so much so, I've happily been paying for action refreshes pretty regularly now. I happened to be in Capital when the opportunity to purchase a Category 1 license became available. I've since landed in Portdown, but there is no option to complete what must be done in order to earn the license. Will an option be showing up in the Quartermaster's pinned card or as an opportunity card? Thanks for any time and help.

Hi, Whitney. I'm afraid I don't quite follow you. Dissent takes effect under two conditions: if you are flying and your Dissent rises to 10 or higher the crew Mutiny. If you have just landed upon a proper island and your Dissent is 6 or higher some crew jump ship. Which one of these happened to you?
And yes, your reputation precedes you. And, to be honest, it stays for reasons of game balancing and I'm a cruel and punishing storyteller.

Just a note to say I am still working on Maelstrom. It's slow coming due to a combination of factors, first amongst which is I can't seem to focus for long at a time.
I've got bones of Steppeholt and The Rock complete. When I flip a few switches, captains will be able to travel to these islands, perform key trades, repair and acquire crew there. But that's all.
Would you - the players - like me to flip those switches?

A note: opportunity cards are coming to Steppeholt soon! You've not been forgotten. =)
UPDATES
- Added a 'fly on by' option to the 'Flotsam' card. Also discovered that 'floatsam' isn't a word and so corrected the spelling.
- Arms (as in, weapons) can now be purchased from Portdown Quartermasters. The islands down near the mists can always make use of blades and powder.
EDIT: Also, decreased the difficulty of a few actions on Portsdown.
