carving a reputation at court Messages in this topic - RSS

I'm at the Empress' court and I just got Persuasive 97, which means that I can start the part of increasing my reputation at court. There is the question of choosing which kind of masterpiece to create. Peeking at the Wiki, I noticed that the poem and the novel give you something more (the work itself) while the other options just give standard rewards. That's a bit of a pity, I wanted to compose a great musical work and I discover it's a kind of a secondary choice... I was wondering, is there the plan to change it and include some special stuff for all the other options too? did the developers say anything about that?

The options that don't give you a copy require less Inspired, and are thus quicker. It's a shame you can't keep them, but you can make more than one work, so you can create a mix of long and short works. (Also, something I wish I had known at the time: after creating a number of works, you'll be approached to create one final piece. You can refuse and create more novels and operas and so on before being approached again - you don't have to burn your bridges the first time it's suggested.)

Aah ok, thanks for the info! (still, it's sad we can get permanent memento of the poem and the novel only)

Is there an upper limit to your persuasive when doing this quest? My persuasive is 130 and the storylet doesn't appear.

I'd like to note this is my first time in the Empress' Palace.

  • Edit: I bumped my persuasive down to 97 and the storylet still doesn't appear. What other conditions are necessary for it to show?

You can't begin this at the Palace; you have to be in the Empress' Court, which is a separate location. You get there by calling in favours at the Palace from Society connections or the Duchess. You have to do this every time you leave, so it's best to take care of any urgent business first.

That's what I meant, I mean. Was in the Court and didn't get the storylet - all I can do is romance the barbed wit and the beauty.

I saw another person on the forum complaining about this. I suggest filing a bug report and waiting to see what sort of response you get. There were a couple other storylets that "disappeared" but in fact showed up when you had the right items. Hm...I wonder if you need a Memento of Passion to start it now.

You don't need a memento of passion
I did it rather recently with 2 alts, but if 'A slow day' doesn't appear at Persuasive 97, it's bugged/changed a lot.

I myself cannot access this, though I have 'Carving out a Reputation at Court 1'. I've dismissed it since I wasn't too concerned with getting into the Foreign Office, However, that has changed for obvious reasons. Any advice; ideas?

Could it be my rise to a POSI?

My alt at Persuasive 90 and no Memento shows the storylet - the requirement is 90.

I'm floating around Persuasive 200, and still cannot see it. I could access it at one point, probably around Persuasive 90, but that was around 6 months ago. I haven't seen it since I left Court, and got distracted by Feducci and an Ambitious Barister... also, I too have no Momento.

Any chance you started writing something in Veilgarden and didn't finish it? I know that working on a short story will prevent "What's your next work?" from appearing.

Glad I could help. And after looking at your mantelpiece only now I can't help but share some of that feeling wink

As 'Working on a Short Story' didn't seem to use any of the qualities 'Carving a Reputation' does, I did not think to correlate it. However, after you mentioned it, I *think* one of the descriptions I read x months ago mentioned that 'Working On' one removes the option for the other...

I share the feeling since a quick look at the Mantelpiece would confirm my suspicion that you're working on something, so I wouldn't need to ask about it wink

I'm also having some trouble with this one... I'm stuck at 'Carving out a Reputation at Court 4'... I get the 'Called to the Office' option, but it seems I have to conclude a romance with either the Barbed Wit or the Beauty, so I get bumped back to 'Carving out a Reputation at Court 3'. The thing is, I have done that and have the memento to prove it! Can anyone think of what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks!
