Have invitations been disabled?

I just noticed that all of the storylets that allow one to invite a friend from the Surface seem to have vanished; on the cards that normally grant them, the invitation options are gone. As near as I can tell, there seems to be no way left in the game to invite a new player to FL -- which seems like big news, but I can't find any announcements about this. Is this a side-effect of the recent issue with social actions, or ...?

They've been disabled since the release of the iOS app in April due to syncing issues.
