Someone asked if there was a guide for The Feast of the Exceptional Rose.
The indefatigable SpaceMarine has some good stuff here.

But I thought there should be a more interactive guide on the forums. This is meant to be a place for questions to be asked and answered in preparation for The Feast of the Exceptional Rose.
So, please ask whatever questions you have and add anything I might have left out.
I provide lots of links to the wiki, so utilize that when possible, but know that it is not supported by FBG and is subject to human, and sometimes inhuman, flaws.
I am no expert, so this is not an exhaustive guide. If you find an error, and you probably will, please point it out and add what you can to help other players.

What is the Feast of the Exceptional Rose?
I'm glad you asked! A St Valentines-esque celebration of love in the streets of Fallen London. People dance, meet new loves and engage in general debauchery. It's named after a baby/rose hybrid thing with fangs that lives in a cellar near the Palace.

When is it?
It opens around St Valentines Day and closes around the end of February or the beginning of March.
The 2017 dates we know thus far
6th Feb Feast opens
13th Feb The Lady in Lilac arrives

Is it fun?
Oh, sweet Salt, Stone and Storm, it is so much fun!

What can I do during the Feast of the Exceptional Rose?
Most Feast specific stuff is regulated to "The Feast of the Rose" opportunity card and to the "Celebrate the Feast of the Exceptional Rose!" storylet. It's fun stuff, so explore it and enjoy. But, in terms of exclusive content, you want to focus on two things: Masquing and Tattoos.

Masquing?
Masquing! It's a Feast quality that can be used to get new companions, exclusive equipment and an otherwise unavailable Acquaintance. It's good times. You want it.

How do I get Masquing?
You can get this up to 20 without Fate by playing specific storylets on The Feast of the Rose opportunity card or by getting rare successes at The Perfumed Pleasure Garden.
You can get up to 5 Masquing by trading in Gifts of Scorn, and up to 30 Masquing without Fate by trading in social masquing items; things like Glass Teeth or Buttered Chess Pieces, to a woman you will grow to hate for her tardiness, The Lady in Lilac.

Wait, a buttered what-now?
A buttered chess piece. This is where the social aspect of the Feast comes into play.
On the Celebrate the Feast of the Exceptional Rose storylet, you have an option to send things to other players at the cost of about 10-30 Echoes worth of items. You can send a Singed Playing Card, a Tiny Kettle of Pickled Liars' Tongues, Glass of Teeth, a Buttered Chess-Piece, a Pink-Painted Cat, a Decanter of Lachrymose Chartreuse, an Antediluvian Ushabti or an Illicit Volume of Unexpectedly Racy Fungal-Themed Poetry all without Fate.

Why would I waste Echoes sending these things to other players?
So they will send them to you. It is generally good form to reciprocate what was sent.

Do these items give any stat bonuses? Can I sell them for a profit?
The Antediluvian Ushabti is a Companion that grants +1 to Persuasive, Watchful and Bizarre. A Decanter of Lachrymose Chartreuse is a weapon that gives +1 to Bizarre. And other than that, no!

Then why do I want them?
You can trade them for Masquing.
Cards, Teeth, Tongues, Antediluvians & Poetry all give 1 Masquing and cost about 10 Echoes worth of stuff.
Painted Cats cost 30 Echoes, while Decanters & Chess Pieces cost 20 Echoes. All 3 give 2 Masquing.

Why do I want Masquing again?
There will, from time to time, appear in your deck a card entitled "The Lady in Lilac." On this card will be a storylet entitled "Surrender a gift." You can use this option to give her all of your masquing items in exchange for Masquing. You can only get Masquing up to 30 without Fate.

Can I use a Chess Piece at Masquing 29 to get Masquing 31?
You can, but Masquing 31 doesn't buy anything Masquing 30 doesn't.

Can I surrender more than 1 item per card?
You can.

What about that Gift of Scorn?
These can be obtained by failing the "The Wheel of Affection" storylet at The Perfumed Pleasure Garden and can get you up to, and no more than, 5 Masquing on the Lady in Lilac card.
The option locks when you have Masquing 6. It's not a lot, but if you've got a lot of companions you want to collect, they can be worth hoarding.

Okay, so I've got Masquing. Now what?
Now you can do two things you want to do. Firstly, there will be an opportunity card which will show up when you have Masquing 1 called "An Encounter at the Feast." It will let you trade Masquing for Feast exclusive Companions.

And Secondly?
You can become Acquainted with the Captivating Princess. You'll need 15 Masquing. There is an option on "The Feast of the Rose!" card when your Airs is between 51-75 to attend "The Duchess's Banquet." If you do so, there is an option to "Share a little honey with the Captivating Princess." This will net you "Acquaintance: the Captivating Princess.
It's one of the fews ways to get a Dreadful Surmise, which you may recall can be somewhat useful around Sackmas."

So every time I spend Masquing, I'll need "The Lady in Lilac" card to get more Masquing?
For the most part.
You can still get some Masquing from the Feast card, but most of it will come from exchanging items with The Lady.

Sounds like "The Lady in Lilac" card is pretty important.
It is. It shows up at twice Standard frequency, but it never seems like enough. People become absolutely furious that it doesn't appear more often. There is usually released an access code to make it appear at least once.
Even so, you may still feel a white hot rage that it hasn't shown up for you as much as you'd like. My advice is, relax. It will show up eventually. You will get everything you want, just not right away.
By the end of the Feast, I find it shows up so much that I keep it in my deck just to stop it from appearing so much.

Which Companions are available?
As of 2016, 21 different companions, 8 of which are available without Fate.

Which is the best, stat wise?
Previously, only the Secular Missionary & Revolutionary Firebrand, Renewed gave a stat(+9 Persuasive) which could not be replicated or exceeded by another Companion.
The newly added "Newly-Born Frost-Moth" means that no Feast Companion has the best stats in the game. This may or may not change in 2017.

Do any require any qualities other than Masquing?
A few, but nothing you probably don't already have or can't acquire easily. You should probably get Connected: The Great Game 1, Connected: Criminals 1 and a Monkey beforehand for all the non-Fate companions.

Do any unlock storylets?
The Watchful Doll was necessary to gather all Hallowmas companions last year.
Lettice, the Mercy opens an option at your Salon and the Presbyterate Diplomat has been known to open a minor storylet or two from time to time. But you never know what tomorrow holds. My opinion is that it is better to have them and not need them than need them at not have them.

The Companion(s) I want costs more than 30 Masquing. What now?
You'll have to be sent a Fate item by another player. Unless you've got a lot of rich friends, this will probably entail you sending them Fate items of equal value.
The "An Encounter at the Feast" storylet let's you send out lots of gifts for Fate. Some of them you might want to keep, like the "Mouthless Amber Mask" or "Golden Spiked Rosary" because they increase your BDR. Others you'll want to give to The Lady in Lilac to increase your Masquing to get whichever companion you have your eye on.
I'd avoid sending in units of 5. The 5 Fate items are neat, but can only be exchanged for 3 Masquing. The other items give a 1/1 Fate/Masquing exchange.

So, I need to send Fate to another player?
That's the idea.
It is an understandably uncomfortable proposition. When you're dealing with real money, nerves can get very on edge. There is always the fear that you'll send 5 pounds worth of stuff to someone and he'll respond "HAHA. I troll you. Thanks for the free money, sucker!!1"
In 6 years, this has never happened to me or anyone I know. Fallen London doesn't really have that kind of player. If it does, they don't stick around.
My advice is to only exchange items with someone you trust and after an agreement has already been made.
I have exchanged a LOT of Fate with a lot of different players over the years and I've never once had a negative experience.

But I'm overly cautious with money!
I understand. My grandmother was Scottish.
You can always send a Fate item to someone and have them Decline the gift on the Messages tab. This should give you the item you sent in your inventory. It can be done with an alt or IRL friend if you're that nervous about it. This only works with Fate gifts.
It kind of goes against the spirit of the Feast, but it's there if you need it.

So, what can I do to prepare?
Start grinding items that will let you send Masquing items: Romantic Notions, Appalling Secrets, Prisoner's Honey, Intriguing Snippets, Mysteries of the Elder Continent, Amanita Sherries, Cryptic Clues and Inklings of Identity.
You should probably make some friends who are willing to exchange items and make an agreement with them to do so.

What about a list of people who want to exchange items, like the Sackmas or Hallowmas list?
You're welcome to make something like that.
I find that a small group of friends is best, as you don't want to get bombarded by 100 Liar's Tongues then have to spend the rest of the Feast grinding Intriguing Snippets to send them back.

What if I've got all the Masquing I want and don't have the material to reciprocate items?
Send a message to the sender explaining the situation. I'd also recommend making a note on your Mantelpiece saying you're not exchanging Masquing gifts right now.

Okay, now what about Tattoos?
Are you "Entwined in the Intrigues of the Clathermont Family"

If I'm not?
Become so. Immediately. You'll need this quality at 8 during the Feast in order to get to the Tattoo stuff.

Then what?
During the Feast there will be a new storylet in Ladybone's Road entitled "News at Clathermont's." The next phase of the story is on the "Lady in Lilac" card...

Her again?
Yes. The "Lady in Lilac" card will have an option to complete this story to its present content boundary. I won't spoil it, but you can follow this story to its natural conclusion and it will lead you to "Millicent's Parlour."
There you can either get a tattoo or choose not to get a tattoo.

What does a tattoo do?
It gives you either a point of Bizarre or a point of Dreaded, depending on which tattoo you choose.

What are my options?
Terrifying and numerous.

Can I get a second tattoo?
Yes, but only during your second year Feast.

Can I get a third?
No, but you’ll have a new option to earn a high-value economy item.
You may also change your tattoo(s) with a small expenditure of Fate.

What if I choose "No tattoo at all?"
Then you get Respectable +1 as a permanent stat.
But you will not be able to get a tattoo next year if you choose this option. This will put a hard cap on your BDR that tattooed players do not have.

What's all this about the Noman, then?
There is an option to get a tattoo of your Noman, but you have to have your Noman alive to get it. Keeping your Noman alive until the Lady in Lilac appears is a massively expensive feat. Getting it is quite an accomplishment.
Because it is expensive, difficult and rare, lots of people want to do it. Like climbing Everest.
Additionally, there’s a further new snippet of story, which gives a unique quality and a high-value item, if you have kept a Noman alive.

WHY WON'T THE LILAC CARD SHOW UP?!?! GRR!!! ARG!!!
It will show up. It really will. Maybe it's a watched pot situation. I don't know. But it will show up.
Please be patient.

Is that all?
I'm sure it's not. Please read all the comments to get the opinions and strategies of players who are probably much smarter than I and who aren't confusing 6 different Feasts, all of which kind of blend together over the years.
They might also add stories of Feasts gone by, like the Exceptional Petal competition.

Happy Feast and best of luck!

I'm writing up a Feast of the Rose Offer myself actually. But that will have to wait till tomorrow. Good post!

If anyone wants to safeguard against the possibility of sending your gifts to the wrong account by way of misclick, add me as a contact; my Fallen London name is 8 and so will appear at the top of most contact lists. Contact me if you accidentally send me a gift and I'll decline it for you (or trade if I have the fate spare).

If need be, others can vouch for me for having a respectable character.

It also may want to be mentioned with which items you trade for Masquing gifts and reasonable places to grind for those items.

Nigel, in the guide the point that should be dreaded from the tattoo is listed as Dangerous. this is clearly an error, and should be remedied as soon as reasonable.
This was already pointed out and amended some time ago.

oh, opps. sorry, loaded an old copy and didn't check that it was still the same. i'm totally failing today. hopefully you're feeling more competent!

Here's something that might be useful: during the feast, these options were best, last year for gathering masqueing for each airs.As such, if nothing changes, these should be the options to beat for any new facets on the old cards. (I cannot promise nothing will change, but i will update it with any new information.)

it's worth exploring all the options anyways, but if you want to get masqueing fast near the feast's end, these are best:
  • Airs 1-25: A lovers Tryst: Meet by the silver fountain.(2 masquing)
If you can manage the stat check, you get 5 echoes in items AND 2 masquing, and +10 fascinating if it is greater than 0. Just one of the first two would make it impressive. both means very few people will actually mind getting the feast card while their airs are in this range.

Alternately, if you're a gambing sort or really need a persuasive mood card, you can go to a masked revel and try dancing with a mysterious stranger for the rare success. while it only offers one masquing on standard success, on the rare one it gives an entire antique mystery AND a persuasive mood.

  • Airs 26-50: buy a kiss from sinning jenny: negotiate a little first (2 masquing unless you fail the check or get the rare success)

Pay 50 amber for a 2.5 echo item, as well as 2 romantic notions and gain 2 masqueing. however, this one has a rare "success" so do be warned. you get no monetary payout, but do get a single point masqueing and 2 points in wounds and scandal

should you prefer raw echoes, a better option is to 'take cold blooded advantage' on 'mrs. gebrandt's asks for your help'. it pays out 3.6 echoes in items, but gives no masquing. alternatively, you can be cruel to be kind and get 10 bottles of tincture of vigor she sells, which, should you be inclined to buy such items, saves you 10 echoes.

  • Airs 51-75: A mysterious envelope: (The only option, 1.5 masquing on average)

It's not perfect, it's a luck check, but it's the most reliable option. randomly gives 1 masqueing and 10 cp watchful or 2 cp and an average of 50 pence in romantic notions.

Alternatively, should you desire to seek hedonism, "the perfumed pleasure garden: enjoying the decadence"'s rare success was an uncapped- well, capped at 12 or higher- source of hedonism last year. it may remain so this year.

additionally, if you've never met the captivating princess yet, you can meet her in the "The duchess' banquet" for 15 masquing. it returns a 312.5 echo item, and some... rather negative moral consequences that may come back to bite you in the future. or they may not, i haven't seen the price you pay yet. Still, while the action is neither heartless nor ruthless in-game, because you don't know what you've done... it's not a nice thing to do.

note that this is a 1-time payout, and will not be availible next year, and the only fate-unlocked source of a dreadful surmise is hallowmas. you probably could get one then, but holding onto it might be a good idea.

"the wheel of affection", also in the pleasure garden, will on "failure" return an otherwise unavailible item, 'gift of scorn', as mentioned in the original guide. It's about as useless as you can get, but if you like collecting trinkets, this one is worth getting.

if you're interested in echoes, this is the dud range. your only option is trawling for certain rare successes.

  • Airs 76-100: "a face from the past: don't remind yourself"

it returns a handful of romantic notions- about 1.1 echo's worth, on average. it also returns 2 masquing.

should you desire to grind afterwards, this is the source of the best echo grinding option too, by 'seeking an intruiging resemblance'. it'll give a love story worth 2.5 echoes. it also gives 4 cp watchful, and may boost two quirks, though it won't cut any, so unless you're trying to keep a quirk zeroed, it's not worth worrying about.

should you desire to grind MW, there's an option under "scandal and intruige" to send a freind a romantic note. i don't know how many waves it returns, and it requires fascinating in the first place (though it boosts it quite nicely). if it's worth doing, tell the rest of us! if it's not, please, please please tell us! (I could try to stockpile the record fascinating, but that's... a horrendous waste of time that'd get lost the instant i went to zee, sadly.)

Rare successes:
(incomplete, and likely to stay so, unless someone actually finds this part valuable)
Sadly, I Don't have the odds of the successes, but if you want to see everything, these are the ones with known rare success. i'll also comment on how good they are, though it may be unreliable.
[spoiler]
Airs 1-25:

"A Masked Revel":

  • "Dance with a mysterious stranger":

the normal success gives a confident smile and four persuasive points. the rare success improves upon this, giving three confident smiles, a persuasive mood (+30 hat that vanishes in an hour, if you didn't know) and a substantial payout in echoes. (12.8 echoes) it's probably pretty rare, but i really don't know. if you need a large persuasive boost, this is certainly worth a shot, though. If it's common, then people interested in boosting persuasive might find it to be competetive with the meeting by the silver fountain. otherwise, only do it if you want to see the text or really need the mood.

  • "Assignation in the garden with a stranger" and "remove a mysterious stranger's mask"
Both have the same rare success, except for the text- a 3.5 echo payout and an event that sets intimate of devils to 1, if at 0, and increases it unless you're up past 4. it does give the reasonably rare venge rat corpse though. These are really common. watch out for them, if you're avoiding the soul-selling story.

  • "Spy on conversations"

Returns 2.66 echoes in items on rare success.if you're grinding whispered secrets here for some reason, it's a nice payout. however, the only reason to do it is because you want to see the text, really.

"A dance with devils", "A lover's tryst", and "Seasonal mischeif":

  • None known, sorry.

Airs 26-50:

"A long lost love"

  • "Offer to help find the lady"

Very little information is availible about this option, sadly. it gives a 2.5 echo item and some amount of masqueing for doing it. it's not even confirmed on the wiki.

"Buy a kiss from sinning jenny"

  • "Negotiate a little."

Remeber how i talked about the rare "success" from sinning jenny if you negotiate a little? this is that "success." Only worth seeking if, agaim, you desire to see everything. far more people will see it unwillingly though. I don't know how rare it is in the feast, but i got it once.

"Enjoy theatrical entertainment"

  • "Suggest a children's puppet show"

returns roughly the same loot, but gives four masquing and interesting insights into... puppets. yeah. If you're seeking this out, might as well do it early, or after you claim your new companions.

Airs 51-75:

"The duchess' banquet"

  • "catch the attention of the duchess"

pays a little over 15 echoes. if this were common... would be very worth doing. sadly, i can't say it is... it might be, but i doubt it.

  • "what's going on in the wine cellars"

This option has always been for lore, not material rewards. the rare success, a whopping 3 echoes, is no exception. the lore might be worth it, though.

"seek advice from madaam shoshana"

  • "request an extipsy"

Returns a touching love story. might be reasonably common, but... sadly, i haven't sought most of these out. i'll do that when the season starts.

"The purfumed pleasure garden"

(note, if seeking all rare success, this can be accessed without using the feast card, so you can spend more time on the others. it costs two actions that way IIRC, though, so it might not be worth doing.)

  • "the exceptional rose"

Double the ticket payout and 2.7 echoes. not amazing, but not bad either. probably going to be more common accordingly.

  • "the wheel of affection"

rare success gives 13 echoes. pretty good, and certainly an option if you need to shuffle airs.

  • "enjoy the decadance"

mostly worthless- a mere 3 echoes- but it offers uncapped hedonism growth- "well, the usual capped at 12-15 hedonism growth." the point where hedonism can be sustained.

  • ""join the dancers"

provides you with puzzle-damask, worth 12.5 echoes. not exactly the kind of drop you see everyday. also boosts masquing by 3, if and only if it's under 18

How much masquing is needed for an obsessive collector?

This is a great question. Let's find out!

If you're a true and proper madman:

Pirate Poet = 3
Neurasthenic Assassin = 3
The Canny Costermonger = 3
A Ghostly Presence = 10
The Presbyterate Diplomat = 10
The Affable Spy = 10
A Pentecost Ape = 10
The Cat's Chiefest Claw = 10
The Hollow-Eyed Tragedian = 40(requires 10 Fate)
Lettice, the Mercy = 40(requires 10 Fate)
A Gentleman of Undisclosed Business/A Stiff-Backed Young Lady = 40(requires 10 Fate)
A Nacreous Survivor = 60(requires 30 Fate)
A Profoundly Educated Gentleman = 80(requires 50 Fate)
An Irresistible Lady = 80(requires 50 Fate)
A Monster-Hunting Academic = 80(requires 50 Fate)
A Restless Clay Man = 80(requires 50 Fate)
A Green-Eyed Devil = 100(requires 70 Fate)
A Quiet Deviless = 100(requires 70 Fate)
The Revolutionary Firebrand, Reforged/The Secular Missionary, Renewed = 100(requires 70 Fate)

If my maths are right, and they usually aren't so feel free to correct me, you would need 389 in non-Fate Masquing and 470 Masquing in Fate gifts for a total of 859 Masquing.
That's about $85 US and a heck of a lot of Glass Teeth!

It's important to note that you don't necessarily need a lot of gifts: last year I got 20 Masquing just from the card, and you could only spend another 10 points of gifts on companions.

Also, stat-wise the companions available without Fate are so not different than the others; the Fate companions should be regarded as roleplaying choices and not economic "necessity."

In other words: the Feast is fun and not an attempt to suck money out of our pockets (thank you, FBG!).

People will usually not just send you Fate gifts. And if they do, they're probably rich and don't necessarily need everyone to reciprocate... wink

Also, let me add that last year I was still a complete noob at the Festival and exchanged Fate gifts with a few players simply by posting here on the Forum. Everything went fine and I don't remember seeing even a single player complaining about someone cheating them. It just struck me how unusual this is - how many places are there on the web where people can just ask "Hey, I'll send you a 5$ gift if you'll send me one back, OK?" without anyone taking advantage of someone!

Personally, I *try* to reciprocate any non-Fate gift sent my way, though coordination beforehand is always appreciated (and wise), though I can't make promises. I even have a gift I've sent out (Pink-Painted Cat) in response to such an unsolicited gift, which has not yet been accepted for 2 years (the player has probably left the game, but I see no reason to cancel the gift I've sent).

Regarding Fate gifts, I believe it's extremely silly to send Fate gifts to anyone without first confirming they can/will reciprocate. You can't just use real money and expect a random person on the other side of the Internet to dig into their purse as well and match your expense.

Whoa, there's some dangerous advice here. You should not withdraw a Fate request as that will not put the item into your inventory. It needs to be declined by the recipient for that to happen:

Cecil wrote:

Romantic Notions, Appalling Secrets, Prisoner's Honey, Intriguing Snippets, Cryptic Clues and Inklings of Identity.

give me estimates for each

It really depends. I know, cliche and unhelpful, but it's true.

The gifts cost as follows:
(= means can be substituted for equivalent masqueing, though each item gives it's own, unique gift, but they're almost all mechanically identical in-sofar as drops are concerned.)

500 cryptic clues = 500 prisoner's honey = 100 romantic notions = 50 intruiging snipped =1 masqueing

200 inklings of identity = 300 appaling secrets = 2 masqueing

If you're completionist and if you want to save fate (by using the any-player gifts instead) and get every possible companion, you'd need to ensure someone sent you 110 masquing in gifts [plus however many new fate-locked companions there are, so you might want 120 or 130 instead.] (13 companions, but two pair are impossible to get together), which is, if you assume reprocity, 1100 echoes in said items.

This is... rather a lot, but a simpler rule of thumb is 0 echoes per fate-unlocked companion, 100 echoes per fate-locked. (you can use masqueing when below 30, but given that cards just hand it out until 20, and for now that's more than enough for any companion, if you don't mind a little delay, it'd be a huge waste to spend it on other characters

Appalling secrets is definitely sub-optimal (30 echoes in secrets for 2 masqueing, as opposed to the alternative 20 echoes for 2 or 10 for 1). It doesn't matter which ones you favor unless you're trying to collect or send all the types of gifts- even if you're trying to get through with only one type, 55,000 cryptic clues would work every bit as well as a mix of everything.

[in the unlikely event that you're spending that absurd sum of fate, and don't want to blow 100 echoes per companion, i'm sure someone would be willing to offer at least 2 masqueing in fate-unlocked gifts for each 1 of fate locked gifts, or better, if you asked]

If you don't care about that, it's worth noting that when de gustibus show up, they'll buy liar's tounges sometimes- it's a reasonably common rare success on the asociated card, and if the numbers are right on the rare success, you'll get 25 echoes, which is 15 echoes profit.

You can actually get to 21 Masquing from just the Feast-card, but making sure you are at 19, and then play an action which gives 2 Masquing.

The Rosary and the Amber/Tanned Masks are best in slot for BDR. The Amber Mask is cheaper, but the Tanned Mask is also best in slot for Shadowy.

If I remember correctly from last year, you cannot pass along a gift you have received. As for the other two questions, I believe in both situations the gift evaporates, leaving you empty-handed and broken-hearted.

I would like to note that after two years of doing this and not exchanging any gifts, it is incredibly easy to get all non-fate companions just from the basic feast card options/the rare successes from the carnival.

Dancing at the carnival is an excellent way to earn Echoes as well. I believe I was averaging around 2.5 EPA last year on it.

You would need 70 additional Masquing, so to minimize the number of turns that you need to spend, you will need 1 50 Fate and 1 20 Fate item, or 1 40 Fate and 1 30 Fate item.

I purposely left out all the steps so as not to spoil the storylet.
Simply make sure to get your "Entwined in the Intrigues of the Clathermont Family" quality up to 8 before the Feast and follow the story from the Lilac card. After that, each step of the story is pretty self explanatory. Just follow the storylet until you get to Millicent's Parlour.

Does anyone know if the rare success on the wheel of pleasure returns a capped point masqueing or an entire uncapped one? I know it's a rare success, so it's not exactly likely to be able to get a devil, but... free masqueing is free masqueing.

Also, what items should i be hoarding for gifting? I'm going to look it up, but more info is always better.

Hey, sure enough. That must have been done more recently. I remember you used to be able to get Gifts of Adoration at the Carnival.
Then again, I also remember when they cost Fate and you could send this to other players.
Anyway, good catch. I amended the guide to reflect the changes.

    Optimatum wrote:
The guide says that Gifts of Adoration are one item that can be turned in for Masquing and are obtainable from the Perfumed Pleasure Garden. Masquing has existed for four years now so I see no reason the guide here would confuse the two, especially when both are mentioned in the same sentence:

Technically, you can still trade in Gifts of Adoration for Masquing. But as there is presently no way to obtain them anymore, most people who still have them probably won't.
I think this was changed last year.
But that's why I wanted the guide to have this level of interaction. This is my 5th Feast and some of them kind of blend together.
    Thanks for bringing it up!

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but:
    A one-sided Divorce costs 50.00 Echoes, 10 Actions

    You'll have the following effects:
    [spoiler]
*A memento.Your 'Images of a Wedding:' Quality has gone!
    *You've lost 5000 x Penny
    *You're unmarried

I don't know about the "manual" divorce though. I think that will start a "pursuing a divorce" quality which needs to go to 100 to finish.

Although the Green-Eyed Devil and Quiet Deviless are cheaper (in terms of Fate, though you will have to spend a Direful Reflection and Portfolio of Souls respectively) when bought from the Brass Embassy card during the Christmas season. For the Quiet Deviless, you also need Intimate of Devils 10. Last I drew the card yesterday, the options were still there. They cost 50 Fate each there.

I'd go for that route instead - one stop and no need to wait for multiple FotER cards to raise masquing first and arrange Fate gift exchanges.

    Excellent breakdown, Nigel.

Notice that for the 389 non-Fate Masquing, much can come from "free" Masquing from the Feast card and not necessarily in non-Fate gifts.

This is cheaper in terms of gifts, but also slower, as you have to wait each time for the Feast card to raise your Masquing to 20 (actually, you can raise it to 21 if you're careful and lucky), before cashing in gifts to raise it to 30.

If you're patient and lucky on the card draws, you'll only need non-Fate gifts for 11 of the items, to take you from 21 to 30 (so 99 Masquing points worth of non-Fate gifts will be needed out of the 389).

You could also try your luck with the Feast's revel. A couple rare successes there are listed to give Intimate of Devil CP (up to 4), and only the first card cares about the Stains until the option at the end.

In case anyone is wondering, the Starveling Stole (10 Fate) is also a hat and gives -1 each to Watchful, Shadowy, Dangerous and Persuasive.

20 echoes (from selling random items) is enough to purchase 500 cryptic clues at the bazaar for a glass of teeth, although that is quite a hefty sum for one who is just starting out.

Another method would be to go mudlarking at Ladybones Road (15 wines on successful) and convert the wines to Prisoner's Honey at the Honey Dens of Veilgarden. This nets 40 drops of honey per 50 wines which will eventually go to either the Singed Playing Card or the Fungal-Themed Poetry (if you decide to upconvert the honey).

I hope this helped, at least a bit. :/

Go to the Perfumed Pleasure Garden and ride the Wheel of Affection for 10 romantic notions on luck check. No stat check, very good return for beginners.

FBG is pretty kind in usually providing a means to get what one needs for special events.

You can keep all Feast gifts, whether or not they are equippable). Favourite collection ideas:
    • A full deck of 52 Singed Cards
    • A full set of 32 Buttered Chess Pieces
    • A full set of 32 Glasses of Teeth

I'm asking on behalf of my non-POSI alt. Would it be more practical for me to work the Wheel of Affection and hopefully get enough Romantic Notions for that Illicit Volume, Gift of Scorns and Masquing rather than grind for Cryptic Clues etc. the other gifts?

How much masquing is needed for an obsessive collector? I checked the wiki and I think it's 60 masquing for the non-fate companions, and then I need 30 'free' (gifts, card) masquing for each fate-locked option I want to buy, so that I use fate effectively? (just for the difference in price - nonfate cap). Am I missing something?

Yes. You can get up to 20 masqueing from the feast-card (or the perfumed pleasure garden, though it makes up for the lack of card dependency by being far less action efficient). that'd set you to needing 10 masqueing from fate-unlocked gifts per card, as long as you keep getting masqueing from that.

No. You're confusing the princess and liliac, for one thing. You won't need to go through the hunt for liliac again, she'll just show up in the quarter. The princess shouldn't be repeatable once you have her aquaintance, or at least she wasn't last time.

If you don't have a companion that provides Bizarre, the Pentecost Ape has that stat.

None of the non-Fate Feast companions are best in slot. In fact, few of the companions that cost Fate outclass the Scuttering Squad or the Blemmigan Secretary. But they have entertaining stories when you obtain them...

I meant the court, and by selling the memento you can repeat the story. most people won't find it useful, but it's always worth mentioning.

I know- so take my guide with some salt. hopefully the doubtful kind, not the hostile/trolling kind, though either is fine.Still, it gives you an idea of where to start, and when i'm using it i will update it accordingly, or delete it as needed. Added in a disclaimer as to its dubious reliability.

Also, it's worth mentioning that masquing can be also obtained at A Masqued Revel opportunity card and is one of the few in game uses of having a spouse.

Does anything negative happen when you send, then cancel a Fate gift? For example, Menaces?
Not that I'm aware of, but I've not done it personally.
If so, it would be the first time in the game any negative consequence occurs for canceling an action.

Ah, I don't recall which option but the option is now capped, which is why new companions are marked as Fate Locked but all of the original few aren't.

What was the option that used to give uncapped Masquing on a rare success, does anyone remember? I haven't done Feast of the Rose since it was a contest to be the most Admired and get an Exceptional Petal.

I'm pretty sure that was dancing at Mrs Plenty's carnival. You also get a free Puzzle-Damask on the rare success that grants masquing. The main guide should definitely talk about the exciting changes that happen there during the Feast.
