I have 200 Persuasive, 157 W, 132 S and 116 D unmodified, and I'm trying to build a Zubmarine, which requires a lot of Whirring Contraptions. I've been using "a lovely thought" in Unfinished Business on Ladybones Road. This only rewards 50-150 Lamplighter's Beeswax at a time. Is there any faster way to grind out Luminosity items, besides buying them?

There's a little discussion on this in the Janissary Guard, you might want to post there as well.

If you want whirring contraptions, it's best to get them directly via dramatic tension at Wilmot's end:

Actually, if you have the resources already, it's better to buy them in sidestreets, since grinding up 1 whirring contraption costs 4*62.5/3 echoes in collections of curiosities, while the purchase in sidestreets costs 60 echoes. whether it's worth using a less effective grind to get the materials is a long and complex calculation... I'll just say maybe, and more likely if you have a failure rate at willmot's end still.

All replies before mine are true, but thought I'd include info for beeswax as well. Based on its cost, it's better to grind for echoes (such as the Affair of the Box, Mourning Candles option,) and buy them for .02 per. Short of going to Bullbone Island which is one of the Islands from A Scientific Expedition (Post University Investigations, and requiring a ship,) there is no other "reliable" grind for said component.

Isn't that already worse than the unfinished business option (on average)?

Also, breeding rubbery hound (devils and taming) [fate locked]. Should be faster than either.

That would be 0.7epa, grinding mourning candles then selling them for beeswax. Much lower than Unfinished Business which is 1.1epa.

That's also worse than Unfinished Business, breeding Rubbery Hounds like that is 1.06epa (huh, not that bad as things go). Which is including selling extraneous items gained in Flute Street for more beeswax.
