Following the discovery of the Heptagoat, the completion of SMEN and the ongoing Fallen London Rework, I thought it would be interesting to collate all the unresolved stories, loose ends and other open questions still pending in the world of FL (I mean, mechanically accessible ones). I am hoping for a crowdsourced effort from those of you who are further ahead or been playing longer and I'll update this post with those contributions. I'll divide things up into several categories:
A: Things we have been told to expect
* Final update for each Ambition * Ability to sell lodgings * A rework of the unusual Connected qualities - Widow, Duchess, University and Masters. * Permanent storylets to change “You Make Your Toasts To” and “Identified with a Tradition” * Fixing/completing Costs conversion (where quality requirements are differentiated into costs and unlock conditions) * More content in the Elder Continent and Parabola settings (the latter with its own map!) * Third season of Knife and Candle * Return of De Gustibus
B: Qualities that have not been accessed
* Tier 5 Professions (via the Impossible “More rarefied and elaborate roles?” branch of An Unsigned Message) * Sultan's Dream * Closest to: The Masters, The Duchess, The University, Rubbery Men * Intimidating... and Disappearing... (reset together with the other progress qualities whenever you go to Zee) * An Expedition: Seeking an Infernal Picnic * Engaged in a Case: the Other Wax-Work, the Copper Thumb, the Early Grave, the Man with the Mirrors, the Crooked Bridge * Target Security: Well-Guarded (A Heist at the Flit) * Enigma 3 (or whatever the next level is) * Your Quarry: A Keeper-Moth and Your Quarry: Something from the Roof (Contracts at the Department of menace eradication.)
C: Locked Storylets
* Sixth and Seventh Coils in the Labyrinth of Tigers * Locked Unterzee destinations: -- The Pillars -- The East * The “Follow cold trails and the suspicion of footprints” option in “Hunting across London” * “Establish a Parabolan Base-Camp” (in Veilgarden) * The Pickpocket's Promenade in Veilgarden * The “Waiting for the Watchmaker's Daughter!” option on “Devices and Desires” (to unlock the continuation of the Watchmaker's Daughter storyline) * The “There's definitely something in it” option on “A Theosophistical Decision” (to unlock the continuation of the Theosophistical Society storyline) * “Enjoy Scones at Beatrice's Tea Shop” (Social action at your Lodgings)
D: Qualities that appear to be building up to something but currently don't do very much:
* Keys to Your Future (A Bringer of Death, Empire's Kingmaker, Hellfarer, Fist of the Bazaar) * Adrift on the Sea of Misery * Advancing the Liberation of Night * Closest to (in general; the cost of changing the faction suggests significantly more import than its current tenuous link to the Spending Secrets carousel) * Acquaintance: the Heptagoat * Caprine Authority (greater than 1) * Noise (gained when failing while Engaged in a Case) * Newspaper qualities (Defender of Truth, Cardinal of Conspiracy, Prophet of the Gutter) * Caught in the Gear's Teeth (part of Playing with Broken Toys storyline) * “Are they talking about you?” (gained in the Fate-locked part of the Jack story) * “Route: the Cave of the Nadir” 4 and above (the consequences of which faction you sell the location to)
E: Stories that appear to be otherwise incomplete
* The Dilmun Club expedition * Dreams (other than What the Thunder Said) * The Blind Pianist and the Sallow Spirifer * The Wars of Illusion (including rework of Glass/Shroud away from being Connected qualities) * Mysteries of the Foreign Office * Diocesan Intrigues * Leather Hearts (extracted from Jack, somehow linked to the Revolutionaries) * Life at the University after recovering your reputation * Nocturnal Visitor to Palace Cellars * Continuation of the Fate-locked Soldier's Heartbreaking Tale, requiring to drop a Silver Horse Talisman down a well * The Interpreter of Dreams (Consultations for non-Water and non-Strategy dreams missing)
F: Things that may never happen but feel like they just possibly might happen
* The Quiet Deviless as a spouse * Higher Studies (a briefly glimpsed branch that may allow further increases of ASotC) * The return of old Particular Day in the Neath stories (The Perils of the Hackney-Carriage, Apes and Ivory, Odysseus , A Parcel in the Post, Amber Eyes, A Conundrum of Cavies) * Gilded Crustacean * Silver Tree tie-ins for Fate (Temple Club, Falcon etc) * Sunless Sea tie-ins for Fate (Parabolan Panther, Dadd Wing etc) * Closest to: The Widow * “Seek Assistance from another writer” (For when you are working on literary works)(likely retired) * the “profit” that is implied to come from the Devious Raven Adviser in its flavour description
G: Characters with unfleshed-out background or background elements that haven't been tied up
* The Numismatrix * The Implacable Detective (and whatever happened with the key in the well on Hunter’s Keep) * The nature of the maid and the thing at the bottom of the well on Hunter’s Keep * Lyme * The Ambassador * False-summer * The lack of foxes in London (in-game, as the Mysteries answer claims there is in-game basis for the lore) * Drudgewick edited by genesis on 8/7/2019 edited by genesis on 8/20/2019

Some storylets and lore hints that Lyme and Feducci are more important than they look and you will be dealing with them again in the future beyond what you can do with them currently. At least, more than just "duel this guy" and "teach the Clay Man", like how Virginia is teased to be involved in Ambitions instead of just being your annoyance in archaeology.
Foreign Office, fate-locked or not, are simply not yet finished - your reason of going there is to become a diplomat and the governor of Carnelian Coast, which was offered as a compensation for getting you exiled from the Court. Right now, you can hang around and grind a repeatable carousel with no permanent effect.
Bound in Diocesan Intrigue is kind of a prelude, I think? Kind of like how Scientific Expedition is a prelude to Dilmun Club.
The Struggling Artist and the Heiress kind of sticks out because the Model and the Jewel-Thief get development later on. I will, of course, always complain about the Struggling Artist because he is like an Eyeless Skull.
Pocketful of Loose Change have very explicit function and not much story attached to it. It is also a Progress quality, in the same category as Casing and Investigating. What I mean is that you might have new things to buy with it in the future but you don't call Investigating an unresolved story for having new story that use the quality.
Presumably, the dreams will also be going on for a long time as you need 99 Is Someone There? for the Parabolan Base-Camp.
Personally speaking, I hope Millicent Clathermont is a loose end. Still feel bad for the fat man. Probably doesn't count.

It would undermine their purpose somewhat, considering that many people get them to help trim their deck, if they added a card to the deck.
Personally I wouldn't object to a rare card that gave a little flavour of the place, though.

The ability to change PoSI specialisation is now available!
Also, Flyte recently confirmed that, while University, Duchess, Widow and Masters may possibly receive Renown/Favour updates next year, FBG does not view Glass/Shroud as connected qualities. I included this info in the update as well.
ETA: There was a mysterious option involving the Ambitious Barrister and an unknown quality "London's Marrow" in Spite. This has now disappeared but Absintheuse indicated that it might be related to the PoSI specialisation update. I'll add it to the list as well.
ETA2: The new PoSI progression options are back so I'll take them off the list. edited by genesis on 7/25/2017

The Quiet Deviless was promised as a spouse years ago (the Portfolio of Souls mentioned it as a use when POSI first came along, and there were hints the first Feast of the Rose that she became available as a Companion). However, that text is now gone and it may well be that FBG have dropped that idea.

BTW, your use of colour indeed helps for emphasis. However, the forums' convention is that use of coloured text is reserved for FBG stuff. This is how we can easily notice formal messages/replies from Failbetter themselves.

Updated with the re-return of marriage and divorce and Urchin conversion.
Took the opportunity to slightly reorganise thing now that I am significantly more familiar with the game than I was back when the post was made.
Some thing were moved to F because I now think they are unavailable because they've been retired. Also the Sunless Sea content in FL appears separate from the general backer "amnesty" and so less likely to appear now.
Added a couple of things to G as well.

As for seeking as an ambition....
I think there should be a point where you have to sacrifice your ambition to seek further.... and THEN it tracks as your ambition instead, until you "become free" and only then could you start your ambition from scratch.
Call it a very VERY expensive way to reset your ambition without fate.

Both options are back, and they don't even depend anymore on drawing the right card, since they've been added to a new pinned storylet at your lodgings.

Thanks for the bump, Parelle! I was actually thinking the same last night.
I've made the changes you've suggested.
I've also added the Renown items for the factions that have already been implemented. Also during Making the Name changeover Chris had said that all 4 "school" major laterals will have permanent storylets when the changeover is complete. But we are still missing Shadowy and Dangerous ones so I added those too.
Finally, I removed "Quarry: Wariness" because the Wiki is wrong and in fact it's used. I've kept "Quarry's Savagery" for now but I suspect it is in fact being used but just for affecting difficulty levels so it's hard to verify. Something to test in due course..

Clay Men are regularly created in Polythreme and shipped to London as part of a deal with the Masters. Perhaps the "Wolfstack" label on a Clay Man's heart is placed there to remind that Clay Man of the purpose for which they were made.
The arrangement between the Masters and the King with a Hundred Hearts may well include a provision for "damaged goods", in which Clay Men lost to accidents or injuries are replaced by additionl laborers in the next shipment. The hearts may be a sort of "proof of purchase", without which the Masters can't get replacements from Polythreme. The revolutionaries would then be collecting Wolfstack-branded clay hearts to keep them away from the Masters and reduce the population of indentured Clay Men in London. edited by Anchovies on 6/22/2017

The old text for the portfolio of souls talked about "courting" the deviless. That could be a reference to her being a spouse but I feel it just as likely refers to the option to "Invite the Quiet Deviless to your Sanctum to look at your Portfolio".
I also went through the historical threads about the feast. Lots of people were confident that FBG had implied her to be a spouse eventually but I couldn't find any direct evidence.
I think what I'll do is remove the Feast spouses from section A, as a promise fulfilled, and add the Deviless as a spouse to section F.

The "There's definitely something in it" option on "A Theosophistical Decision" is now marked as Impossible!.
This means two things: 1) Update to the list!, 2) Maybe maybe maybe that storyline is being reworked
ETA: General tidying up and updating of the list. Added more things we know to expect: notability/fate/marriage social actions, Costs, sunless sea tie-ins, Elder Continent/Parabola Maps. Tidied up some duplication (where an Impossible! unlock implies a continuation of some storyline). Removed some things that are now in the game (e.g. NORTH at Sea).
Does anyone know anything about the alleged availability of Silas outside Christmas? It was something I saw once a long time ago on St Arthurs Candle but haven't seen anything else mentioned about it. I wonder if it should be on the list really...

More factions have been converted to Favours/Renown and also Beatrice's tea shop seems to be un-retired (although still impossible). Hence a new update!
Also removed the alleged ability to gain Silas outside of Christmas (I added back when I was a semi-newbie but having played the game a lot and read a lot of other resources I've seen *nothing* to suggest that was ever the case) and "Scheme: Sell to Criminals" (as suggested earlier in the thread, this is all but certain to be the old name for Scheme: Graduation")

There may be good reasons they wouldn't want to divulge that information, but it would be interesting to know.

I agree that SMEN should be something like Ambition: Mr Eaten's Name, in line with Enigma. Shouldn't that be "Tier 5 Professions"? Pickpocket's Promenade isn't locked. I feel like The Cheery Man and the Last Constable is complete. Getting a permanent resource-giving opportunity card is, in my experience, a "this story is over" marker.

In the meantime, while exploring low level content I've come across a few more useless (as far as I can see qualities): Quarry's Savagery and Quarry: Wariness.
Also I've noticed that the Bat with Attitude claims to have uses in its description and yet none are known so far.

However, statements like this are never really going to go away unless Failbetter comes and says "We've completed everything; there is nothing more to learn about Parabola" and makes us all weep. Thus, even when an item is on the list you can't necessarily take that to mean that nothing has been done about it.

Hm. I'm asking because I suspect
that the supposed Parabola map would be part of the [REDACTED] you cite.
Since the option to give a point of Notability was frozen due to problems with the now-defunct mobile version, can it be returned, please?
This option's back. Yippee!

What's this new heist you speak of? I see no such thing. There's no place to start it, even with an "Impossible!" lock-out. But, if you select an existing Heist, you can see the list of available Heists by looking at possible values of the "Planning a Heist" that unlock the storylet. That list has a new value.

The lodgings cards have story options that revolve around the daily activities and spirit of the type of lodging. Remote lodgings simply eliminate the city vice cards.
I personally think it would be cool to have the same for each of the remote lodgings - stories and choices in the theme of their unique settings.
Don’t know if that’s in the spirit of this thread as it may be intentional by FB. But I’d love those specific cards added.

Maybe a storylet available at the lodgings? It would keep the opp deck clean but give some extra flavour or lore.

Well, just a suggestion. I know not everyone would love it. I love Opportunity cards; for me they help support the great atmosphere of the game in many ways. And I particularly appreciate all lodging cards for the scrap grinding at the very least.
