What happens if the account tweets a whole bunch of things, only one of which is relevant? all of the rest appear to be related to the mirrorcatch box but are red herrings

I would love it if the message was a word search where the letters that are left uncircled spell out "oh my, what lovely boots" which purportedly nods towards the item upgrades but is actually a direct quote from e.g. The History of Samuel Titmarsh by W. M. Thackeray, who also has a quote from Vanity Fair, which with some letters removed is quoted by a rubbery man. The rubbery card after that rubbery man will have a long series of gurgles that are all English words missing one letter, and the missing letters spell out "When Iron meets Candle" and we all storm the Docks as a large group of Name Seekers to sacrifice Mr Iron upon a funeral pyre to be gifted mirrored boxes by the Calendar Council simultaneously sparking off a revolutionary war.

You may also had to have sided with the Revolutionaries during Christmas. And THEN needed the Cheery Man at the right Winds. While having a box that you get when you have Connected Masters. And wearing the Anarchist's Sable Yes it sounds convoluted. But how else only 11 people in the entire game would get it?

With only 11, and then in short order an additional 3, people getting the Mirrorcatch box, it stands to reason that rather than being some really odd thing to do or unique configuration of equipment, perhaps it is just something that has only recently become possible to do, in addition to being somewhat obscure.
How many people have tested any interactions between their new pets and their in game counterparts? Or maybe just an extra option on a rare card or early content location, unlikely to be frequented by those with Connected the Masters, and therefore without a River in a Box? Just throwing these out, although the first hypothesis might be a little too easy given the tiny percentage of people with one.

Possibilities for the place across the Unterzee where everything is forgiven:
- Mutton Island: If anything, Mutton Island is a place where old and terrible grudges are nursed. - The Iron Republic: I don't think this is a place of anything of constancy, never mind forgiveness. - Bullbone Island: It's devoid of human life. Probably not here. - Corpsecage Island: Ditto. - Grunting Fen: Ditto. - Grunting Fen: Ditto. - Hunter's Keep, the Sea of Voices, Polythreme: These are at least within the realm of possibility. I don't think any of them are specifically forgiving, but they're not obviously a bad fit either. Polythreme would fit with the mention of Clay Men yesterday, too. - The Tomb-Colonies: I think this is the most likely possibility. You don't get to them via your own ship, but one possible way of getting yourself exiled makes reference to you getting on board a ship to go there. A rare opportunity card there, or one with specific requirements to show up, would stay hidden for quite a while (especially with everyone trying to stay away during the Feast to pick up Masquing).

I have my doubts that it's a rare opportunity card, though. nothing particularly cunning about being lucky
e: seems like a 15th person got a mirrorcatch box. i wonder what we're all collectively missing or it's something to do with day 15 of the iron republic i can't find the spreadsheet that detailed how to get to the various days, so i dunno

Day 15, according to my personal notes, is a Connected: Revolutionaries challenge. You get there from Day 8, succeeding on the Beauty challenge (you get to Day 8 from failing at Day 1 or from Day 42).
I haven't been back yet, though.

Language is so ambiguous, isn't it? "Thinking outside the box" can either be a figurative recommendation to be unconventional or might just be literally telling us to stop obsessing over the River in a box in the search for the Mirrorcatch. That thing with the hats beneath the river blows my mind, too. Is there some storylet with Drownies and hats? Was that not the clue at all? I'm terrible at these kinds of puzzles, but I love them.

How, exactly, would someone at a low level gain Connected: Masters? I'm a non-PoSI, so if that's a requirement, I'm still locked out, but still...nice to know it's still possible.
Exactly how low-level? There are several sources before POSI, from the revels, from Knife-and-Candle story and the one where you investigate something to name a few. edited by Aximillio on 3/8/2013

Are people who've recently come back into the Masters' favor still receiving boxes or has that ship sailed? I took time out from Seeking to try to get my Connected back, and after supplying a great quantity of beverages to Mr. Wines, I finally have it again.
But the Number beckons.
It's been several days since I became connected again, and nothing has happened. I would really like a river in a box of my own, just for the sake of having one, but there's no sense in putting off my search indefinitely if nobody is getting them at all anymore.

I'd say the chances of another River batch being sent out at this point are extraordinarily low, seeing as their main use is gone and the description explicitly refers to the Feast of the Rose anyway

There's an alternate way to get a Mirrorcatch Box? Does it involve K&C?
Also, I doubt there will be any more River Boxes distributed anymore. I have one, and I can't even use it because the link reached its 100 usages. The only purpose it serves now is to get you 32.5 echoes, and while that is useful, it's not anything that can't be done by more mundane means.

Yes, you can steal one through K&C. There's a storylet on the "Attack" opportunity cards that let you take a Mirrorcatch Box from it's owner. The catch: 1. You have to identify an owner of a Mirrorcatch Box, and 2. you have to defeat him in a K&C bout.

The box contains a representation of the Bazaar, so catching sunlight in it might have had some magical effect. I'll certainly never know, now; I didn't even think of checking the Box during the Event.

2. There is a timed event similar to the "something will happen soon" launched messages, where we are all placed into a table with a job that fulfills due deliveries. This is less likely for a one-time delivery, in my opinion.
You could well be right. I'll be looking closely to see whether my alt (stats between 65-79 and very low Connected Masters) gets a Box; that will help confirm your theory.
The account of mine that received her box first (tinyassassin, most stats 70-83) only has Connected: The Masters 1. (My main, who has significantly higher Connected: The Masters, received hers a couple hours later.)
My only account that has yet to receive a box (my newest, forthejackpot, stats between 14-49) has no Connected: The Masters. It shall be interesting to observe whether they receive a box...

My alt (which does next to nothing) has received a box, but my main account has not. My guess, going by the description of the box (and the circumstances of my two accounts), is that players with Connected: The Masters at at least 1 will get this gift (probably in a staggered manner).
Unfortunately, my main account is Seeking the Name, so if my theory's true, there's no way I'm getting a river in a box . . . unless I do something to redeem myself really fast. Not sure if it's worth it . . .

I think the mention of the calendar council and cheery man might have been a hint as to how to get one, but I have no idea. The cheery man does mention he's got a sunlight-smuggling operation going on, and a mirrorcatch box sure does seem like the appropriate equipment for such an endeavour.

I don't know if we'll ever know for sure unless we either manage to find one ourselves or get one of the mysterious 11 boxhavers to spill their secrets. or a writer sticks his head into the forum thread and laughs because it was a 2% rare success branch on some content from 2007 or something

I too have received one. One hopes that it does not herald a similar state of affairs for myself that so plagued the Watchmaker's Daughter!
ETA: Additionally, I have set it upon my Mantelpiece, in case any would care to look. edited by The Incorrigible Raconteur on 2/19/2013

I got two, and I haven't yet sent any Fate items for the Feast, so I've really no idea where it comes from.

I too have received one of these strange models of our fair city. How... nice of the Masters to let us know they care. One way or another.
It is currently displayed atop my mantelpiece, should any care to inspect it. Tell me, is there anyone who hasn't received one, or is it worth investigating what criteria the masters may be using?
It occurs to me that a certain woman in lilac may wish to inspect it. I shall investigate.
Hmm... No luck there. What are we supposed to do with the blasted things?

I didn't get one of these on my main account, yet my alt did. It'd be nice to know what instigates this delivery, as I'm fairly certain that I didn't do anything on my alt that my main hasn't experienced. Quite the opposite, actually.
Really? Well now I'm curious what the criteria are.

We're likely seeing staggered delivery for one of two reasons:
1. They are manually running scripts because of the batch size involved in an effort to minimize the performance hit to the database. This is likely due to the increased time we've seen today when trying to equip items.
2. There is a timed event similar to the "something will happen soon" launched messages, where we are all placed into a table with a job that fulfills due deliveries. This is less likely for a one-time delivery, in my opinion.

Not that I know of.
Have you acquired either any of the Fate locked items from the Feast or any of the new companions? This might be like the robes from Christmas.
I got 2 dolls and a maggot with a rose. I'm a bit short on Fate right now. I haven't even seen the card that lets you get the new companions.
That's interesting. I received a few of the 5 Fate items only, as I too am short of Fate. But if you got a Box and haven't even seen the Encounter at the Feast card, that means that receipt of a box has nothing to do with whether you've acquired a new Companion. Perhaps it's related to the amount of Masquing you have? I have 32 right now.

The alt of mine that received it doesn't have any masquing, as she hasn't really been participating in the feast.
