Apologies if I'm being dumb, but....
I seem to be a bit stuck on getting the screaming map. Any suggestions?
Specifically:
- I have "Playing Cat and Mouse with an Evasive Target" of 1, so the various Disgruntled Naval Officer / Masked Clay Man / Enterprising Astrononomer starters are blocked
- I have a Puzzling Map, but I don't remember where I got it
- I've been to Polythreme but I need to go back in my own ship
- And I don't have the Screaming Map...

If you're engaged in the activity in Ladybones Road, you must finish that first. Otherwise, there's a wait between you finish the hunt and you get the map-half (at the docks)

Puzzling map is irrelevant. That's just an item you can get.
If you've been to Polythreme, was it on the public ship?
I think you can get Cat and Mouse from some other places, like the Implacable Detective's cases too. Try checking out all the different zones to see if you can find which investigation story you started. Finish that and you'll b able to deal with the officer/clay man/astronomer again, and get the map.

I'm also having trouble with this one.
I actually got a message that the Disgruntled Naval Officer was waiting in my home, but the bugger vanished. I have the the "Playing Cat and Mouse.." at 1, no investigation, haven't been to Polythreme and have been like that for about a month now..

If you've been at your lodgings (which I assume), I can't see why it shouldn't appear.

I have the same problem. After completing the Disgruntled Naval Officer line of investigation, I was left with 1 point in the Cat-and-Mouse quality. This has locked me out of gathering the other map parts, or using the Implacable Detective business cards. This seems like a bug as I suspect that the Cat and Mouse quality was supposed to be set to zero on completion but has failed to do so.

It's supposed to be set to 0 after you claim your reward. It's also a way to prevent people from getting the two map halves at the same time.
