I don't want it to replace the OOC here for most things, though. More like...rapidfire stuff?

For any late arrivals: Don't mind the obscene amount of shitposting. Nothing was actually planned in the middle of all that, 'cept some future...IC affairs.

Well that would have been terribly awkward if Viric had left after we served the wine but before this particular moment.

Exactly what I thought! Let's hope he isn't a fan of Surface imported wine.

I'd like to point out that, even though Canvas could be referred to as a 'detective' (as many of you did), he is much closer to being an 'investigator' or a 'private detective'. He cut his ties with the Constabulary a long time ago. I'm not complaining, they're basically synonyms, but I just wanted to make sure we're all on the same page! He works for the people, not exclusively for the Constables.

Oh yeah, that was definitely noted. The term detective was being used in the more general sense rather than that of a police rank.

On a similar note, some of the dialogue seems to imply the drug added to the wine was lethal and it definitely was not that.

So, we discussed dividing up some of the GMing on the Discord (delicious watchers, this is why you'll see less on the OOC thread now). Here's the list of places! Also, genre descriptions.

Meet at Jen's townhouse in the West End the night before.
I'll GM this. It'll be a standard scene that involves Jen dividing up the roles and teams, perhaps with some suggestions IC, and mention some of the tricks and traps they have to be wary of. The actual plans will be discussed on Discord so that we keep the story exciting for our watchers.

In the morning, head to the Labyrinth of Tigers to rob the Bazaar's Emporium. Release the people in the Third Coil while we're at it. We're not stealing the animals, since Anactoria objects to that.
While I have some ideas here, I'd be happy to give this up. I haven't gotten very deep into the Labyrinth, and I haven't done Theological Husbandry either.

Go to the Shuttered Palace together. Pop by the Cellars to persuade Alfred to help us if we anger his sister. Rob the VPC and the couple while the wedding is going on.
I definitely want to GM this. The encounter with Alfred will be Lovecraftian but also oddly fluffy. VPC will be straightforward. Like effortless, because he's such a useless man. The couple on the other hand... that will have some big reveals about the Royal Family, the Presbyterate, and Red Honey.

Split into two groups. This seems like the best way to get around everyone's personal issues with robbing them. One, with Jen, stays in the Palace to rob the Duchess.
Since I'm staying in the palace, I should probably GM this, and I really want to. There are two options:
1. A Mission Impossible, stealthy heist that's mostly action and fun.
2. We go with the twist we discussed on Discord. It'll be high-pressure, forcing the characters to bond if they want to survive.

The other group heads to Ladybones Road to rob the Brass Embassy.
Someone else will have to GM this!

Meet at the Ministry of Public Decency to rob that. I headcanon that it's at Ladybones Road.
Also willing to give this up.

Head to Concord Square to steal from the police.
Again, I'm not too fussed about this, so someone else can take over!

Go to Wilmot's End to steal from the Foreign Office. Be careful of Snuffers.
I want to GM this. I've played the Mysteries of the Foreign Office, and I plan to make this creepy and unsettling, of the psychological horror genre.

Head to Veilgarden. IRL this is a fashionable neighborhood. I headcanon that it would be a popular residence. Slowcake's Amanuensis will be robbed here.
This is up for grabs -- sounds fun, but if anyone wants to GM, feel free!

Go to the Flit. Distribute some of our loot among the Urchins and the Topsy Man in exchange for their assistance and not selling us out, and also because it's a nice thing to do.
Not really a scene, more a chance for tooth-achingly sweet fluff.

Steal Mrs Plenty's mirrors.
This I want to do. It will, again, be horror of the Japanese creepy mindscrew variety, if that's okay. And it will involve a big reveal about Jen.

Meet at Watchmaker's Hill to steal from the Cheery Man and bring down his criminal empire.
I'd like to GM this too. Mainly because Jen has a very personal reason for wanting to bring him down.

Head to the Docks to rob the Gracious Widow and sabotage her criminal empire too, as well as stealing her peach brandy.
Someone else can GM this if they want!

Back to Veilgarden! This time, we rob February. Distribute some of our ill-gotten gains around the Bohemians to help them with their career.
I'd rather someone else do this. I don't have much experience with the Calendar Council, and I won't do it justice.

Head to the University to rob Sommerset.
Again, I have no particular attachment to this, so someone more enthusiastic can take over!

Return to Jen's townhouse to count the loot and celebrate.
Bear in mind that the orgies were just a joke!

I'm cutting Mahogany Hall and Doubt Street, but if anyone's keen on them, they can do the GMing for those!

If people are okay with it, I'd like to take the Flit scene and twist it so we can do some murder investigation, among some other things. It'll optional, as far as the heists are concerned, and might raise the stakes for those who crave something a little more intense. Of course, this depends on whether people would be up for it. There would be many trigger warnings, but we can discuss that.

Consider it the metaphorical SMEN of IRU.

I have ideas for both the Ministry and the university.

Hey everybody,

I’m going to be GMing the first part of the heist - the Labyrinth of Tigers. My plan is to get a Google Doc up for the group with an introduction and prompts some time soon - probably Monday. In order to get a grip on what the action is going to be like, I’d like for everyone to let me know what you expect and what would you would like to see/do:

  • Roles: What role do you expect to play in this heist? What abilities do you expect to use for the group’s benefits, and how?
  • Liabilities: Are there ways in which your character’s liabilities might make things harder for the characters? (In a way that can still be fun for the players, of course!)
  • Perceptions: Does your character have unusual senses, knowledge or contacts which might give them an unusual and valuable perspective on this heist?
  • Agenda: Does your character have any special agenda on this heist? (could be any number of things regarding Factions, NPCs, fellow PCs, or loot)
  • Spotlight: Is there any particular aspect of your character’s personality or background that you would like to highlight on this heist?
  • Any other requests? (Things you’d like to see/do, things about the tone of the adventure, suggestions, miscellaneous)

I realize that FL characters are generally improbably good at everything, so just focus on the abilities that most define your character and that you would have most fun writing. I probably won’t be able to include everything, but I’ll try to include as much as possible of the things that the players want to see. You can respond in the thread, unless you have something you want to keep a surprise for now, in which case message me directly!

Hieronymus Drake: Gentleman scholar, big-game hunter, scar-faced aristocrat. Remarkably sane, all things considered.
Tanith Wyrmwood: Longshanks cat-burglar; Bohemian author; now, perhaps, something more. Bubbly, expressive, and affectionate. It’s not only still waters that run deep.
Telemachia Lee: Gentle lady by birth, brawling Docker by choice. Good company in the drunk tank.

TELEMACHIA LEE

Roles:
  • Muscle: Lee can take down guards quickly and quietly if need be. She’s at her most useful when things go wrong: she’s an improvisational tactician and very good at dealing with the unexpected.
  • Brazen Infiltrator: Lee has the sort of bone-deep self-assurance that allows her to get away with things simply by acting like she belongs there.

Liabilities:
  • Impulsive: Lee is at her best in spontaneous action. When she has to wait, she’s easily distracted. Especially by a pretty girl.
  • Show-Off: Lee loves daring feats, and this tendency will be exaggerated around Anactoria (whom she wants to impress) and Michael (he and Lee have begun challenging one another to an escalating series of reckless and ridiculous tasks.)

Perceptions:
  • Bat-eared: Lee has extraordinarily keen hearing, particularly for echoes.
  • Troublemakers: Lee is friendly with all the most disorderly factions of London, from the Stoats and Young Stags to the criminal gangs to the Revolutionaries.

Agenda:
  • Protective: Lee is naturally inclined to support and protect her whole team. She cares more about the team that she does about the greater good. She is extremely protective of Caroline and Anactoria (to the point that it could become a Liability.)
Spotlight:
  • Nothing extra: Lee’s loyalties and character are pretty well covered by the above, I think.

Other requests:
  • Not really: In general, I like to see some exciting action, particularly hand-to-hand combat. As GM on this section, I won't add it just for my own sake, but some other players have expressed interest as well.

MICHAEL BARROWS

Roles
:
- Quiet Infiltrator: Michael and the weasels can sneak in and out of most places without being noticed. They can also steal small objects, like keys or folded maps, if they're given enough intel on where they might be.

- Sniper: Give him a target, a window or a reasonably large distance, and consider your back covered.

Liabilities:
- Neath-Born: London, along with her complexities, don't faze him nearly as much as they should. Most likely to shoot himself and keep his body in a ditch to escape danger.

- Clear-minded: What you see is what you get. And what you get is someone who will take your words and actions at face value.

Perceptions:
- "A year that will never come": If you need special ammunition, Hell's got you covered*. Each bullet has a different letter of its alphabet to symbolize its purpose: Smoke-bombs, sleeping powder, poison, you name it, it's probably there. Of course, they aren't infinite...And they happen to be quite expensive...(I'll probably limit it to one or two special effects per heists, and only use them once or twice. Don't bleed my boy dry.)

- “As ye ken”: He's heard it all. The stories, the rumours, the vile gossip. Not all of it is true, of course, but cross-refering information is the best way to find the closest thing to the truth. (Being an OOC lorehound, I'll provide all the info I can! IC, we can discuss what's more likely to be true or not.)

Agenda:
- And nothing but the truth: Michael intends to publish all the notorious information we find, omitting only the heist participants' names. Of course, not everyone might agree with this...

Spotlight:
Not particularly! Unless you count him internally groaning because there's no bloody wind down here.

Any other requests?
Make me rant about what's going on through the entire thing, and I'll be a happy Sly.

Nikki

Roles: What role do you expect to play in this heist? What abilities do you expect to use for the group’s benefits, and how? Lockpicking, as needed. Bait, as needed. Distraction, as needed. And she's great at bluffing -- and known to have wild stories.

Liabilities: Are there ways in which your character’s liabilities might make things harder for the characters? (In a way that can still be fun for the players, of course!) Animals are cute. And distracting. She may try to pet them. Or take one home. Or just let them all out of their cages. But nothing too different from the usual.

Perceptions: Does your character have unusual senses, knowledge or contacts which might give them an unusual and valuable perspective on this heist? Nikki is popular with the tigers, which might be useful. She's not afraid of large/dangerous creatures -- though this can cause brashness as much as bravery. She sees well in the dark, which might or might not be useful.

Agenda: Does your character have any special agenda on this heist? (could be any number of things regarding Factions, NPCs, fellow PCs, or loot) Nikki wants to steal the Tiger Keeper's hat. She will probably also be the one to suggest putting honey in the hearts because of course she is.

Spotlight: Is there any particular aspect of your character’s personality or background that you would like to highlight on this heist? Uh...letting loose creatures to cause mayhem seems very Nikki, but other than that, I can't think of anything? Her devil-may-care attitude shows up /everywhere/.

Any other requests? (Things you’d like to see/do, things about the tone of the adventure, suggestions, miscellaneous) If possible, Nikki riding on SOMETHING should happen. Preferably some large quadruped used to plow through a bunch of barriers/cell doors. But it's negotiable.

CANVAS BLANK

Roles:
  • The Scout: In his free time, he has taken the liberty to investigate the targets and plant several supply caches around them. In this case, the first few easily accessible Coils. Lets hope a janitor -- or something worse -- hasn't dug them up in the meantime.
  • The Self-Proclaimed Toxicologist: Cantigaster, Gebrandt's or malicious salts, he knows them them all by heart, including how long you will roll on the floor upon consumption. More importantly, he knows how to put that knowledge to good use.

Liabilities:
  • Did you hear something?: Not very fond of tigers. Or giant lizards. Or the snakes. If it originates from the Neath and wants to tear him apart, it probably makes him uncomfortable. What? Scared!? Of course not! Preposterous!

Perceptions:
  • Know the way: Some would say that the entire city of London was twisted into a maze during it's descent. The structure of the Coils is just as confusing. He seems to find an easy way in and out of both.

Agenda:
  • Secrets?: He is mainly in this to find out things he shouldn't be able to. Substance for blackmail, secrets, secretive documents... When it comes to those, the Labyrinth is the last place he'd look. He wouldn't mind seeing the penguins, though.

Spotlight:
  • His dislike for Neathy beings (See 'Liabilities').
  • Trying to tolerate Barrows and his "Wind" nonsense.

Requests:
  • Nothing, really. Make sure everyone has a great time. It's been smooth sailing so far, lets keep it that way! Oh, and again, the penguins.

Rôles
• Animal Whisperer: useful if hiding in or moving through exhibits is necessary; can facilitate animal breakout if distraction is required.
• Innocent looking: “I know I’m not supposed to be here, but I’m totally lost!”
• Backup muscle in the event of violence.

Liability
• Likely to pull a killing blow
• Still has much to learn about how things work in the Neath.

Perceptions
• Animal Whisperer: “Don’t run, it’s all bluff.”
• Friends: Recently prevented two tigers from eating a passel of L.B.’s by providing an alternative dinner. Said tigers will likely remember her and view her favourably (not that they will necessarily meet during the heist).

Agenda
• Get in and out with as little bloodshed as possible; ideally this means none.
• Not messing up in front of Lee.

Spotlight
• Animals Skillz (dovetails frightening well with some of what Nikki would enjoy).
• Maybe Anactoria picks up a new companion.

Other
• Her and Canvas are rather opposites here; could be fun to play them off each other.

    Tanner Price

    Roles
    • Wolf of the Sea: Experienced and daring pirate with a penchant for controlled mayhem. Primed and ready to unleash a stampede of wild animals if it will help during the heist.
    • "Always the gentleman": Exceptionally good with people and influencing them to like him. Will be useful for distractions or persuasions in case of any unwanted human company.
    • Cryptozoologist: Has worked with the Bishop to create numerous Neathy creatures in the Labyrinth. Knows more or less how to go about handling them.

    Liabilities

    • "No Animals Were Harmed...": First instinct will be to avoid an enraged animal rather than neutralize it with violence. Might fumble around trying to figure out how to save his skin without drawing his blade.
    • "Pirates are better than Ninjas": Lacks the stealth and silence of an assassin or master of the shadows. Although he's careful and plans ahead, he doesn't really become one with the night.

    Perceptions

    • Season Pass: Knows his way around the Labyrinth fairly easy, and has a good internal sense of direction. Will have trouble becoming lost.

    Agenda

    • Complete this heist without bloodshed or any witnesses to notice them and sell the team out. Might work with Nikki on a scheme to get the guards out of the way.

    Spotlights

    • None in particular. The Labyrinth doesn't have much of interest to offer Tanner. He will take a support role during this operation, keeping trouble away from the rest of the team.

    Other

    • Will not seduce a tiger, so don't ask.

    LADY JEN BLACK

    Roles:
    • Leader: Having brought the crew together and masterminded the heist, Jen is in charge of this. At least, technically speaking.
    • Assassin: Death is her gift, coming from an intimate acquaintance with the many ways to kill someone. As with all of that profession, she is skilled in the ways of shadow and stealth.
    • Femme Fatale: Lust and beauty are as deadly weapons in her hands as her knives. She can play distraction to anyone attracted to women.

    Liabilities:
    • Civilised at Heart: It would be too easy to murder her way through all obstacles, and so she balks at the idea.
    • Predatory Aura: Due to her talent for killing, she has an air of danger that causes animals to feel threatened and unsettled.

    Perceptions:
    • Conjuror: Due to her links with Hell and the Urchins, Jen’s profession means that she is closely linked to the Fingerkings. This will make her interactions with the Third Coil prisoners… interesting.
    • Situational Awareness: Everywhere Jen goes, her mind is constantly looking for the fastest way to get to safety, assessing the threat level of the people around her and calculating the best way to kill everyone.

    Agenda:
    • Commanding: She wants to prove herself to the others as being worthy of their trust and respect, despite being so young.
    • Prisoners: Jen is dead set on freeing the prisoners in the Third Coil. While she doesn’t know about the FIngerkings, she’s allied with them in Parabola and wouldn’t be too fussed about letting them go even if she did know.

    Spotlight:
    • I want to show the side of Jen that’s a kickass, fierce, #bossgirl who fights and manipulates and gets things done with style.
