Something that immediately strikes you about the reach is its plant life. The reach is often described as verdant, and is definitely a contrast to the dark caves of the neath. Port Avon, for example, is an idyllic village with so much green and grass I can't believe its made by failbetter. I really like this design choice, but I am having a really hard time fitting this into the lore of the world. If the sun in the reach is dead, where is all this ambient light coming from? How can they grow plants and how is it different from the neath, which also doesn't have any sunlight? They can't possibly be using only electric lights, right?

Hey there,

Well, I don't think this will answer all of your questions but you should check out what our Narrative Director has to say about the High Wilderness in a talk at EGX. It's all interesting stuff, so watch it all if you have the chance, but that link will take you to the place where he explains one or two things.

With three more Regions to come plus additions to the Reach, I'm sure more will be revealed further in development. Though some things may forever be a mystery...... it's scarier that way.

I’ll make sure to check it out! And I definitely appreciate the air of mystery Failbetter evokes in their games.

I'm very pleased you've said that Ludovide as I'm hoping it means my answer to your gravity question won't annoy you too much.
