Welcome! You're here for information and I'm not going to steal your time. Just a few opening remarks, especially if you're a NEW PLAYER:

It should be understood that you can never have more than 7 of any faction's Favours. That's right: NEVER. If you play a storylet granting 3 Favours: Urchins when you already have 6, that's your loss. Please do remember this as I'm not going to include "but only up to 7" for every single Favour-granting item on this list.

It should also be understood that Renown can never be lost. That's right again: NEVER (except via one option during Seeking Mr Eaten's Name). If I list something as "unlocked with Renown 10" then obviously playing that storylet will not reduce your Renown.

You should probably collect your first few Favours and get started on the road to Renown at Mrs Plenty's Carnival. Don't hesitate to use the options under The Big Top and The Sideshows even when your stats are still quite low! They lock with Renown 5 and you'll never be able to use them again later. (the exception here is Society which you can't actually use until you're The Darling of the Ambassador's Ball)

Bohemians
Church
Constables
Criminals
Docks
Great Game
Hell
Revolutionaries
Rubbery Men
Society
Tomb-Colonies
Urchins

As a general rule, this Guide is for grinding Favours and Renown, so I'm mainly going to list actions that are repeatable. I will make exceptions for one-time opportunities that pay out more than one Favour (e.g. ending the Jack case, Selling the Nadir's location etc.), or when they're part of a notable storyline (e.g. the Cheesemonger, Last Constable etc.)

This also pertains to Exceptional Stories and Fate-locked content. I'm not going to list every ES that grants a Favour at some point or other just because you could theoretically reset it via Fate over and over again. However, repeatable storylets unlocked via playing an ES or Fate story (e.g. the Shepherd of Souls card) will be included.

I would also like to point you toward Grenem's guide for grinding Favours without using opportunity cards - but note that this doesn't yet include the most recently converted factions.

Last but not least I would like to say a big Thank You to all Echo Bazaar Wiki contributors - this guide would not exist without your work! smile

What's next?

I need your help! smile I'm keen for knowledgeable forum users to check and double-check everything I write here.

We're probably still missing some opportunity cards that only newer/low-level players can see. Glad for any information on them!

Generally, don't hesitate to draw my attention to anything you think I might've missed!

  • you can spend 5 Favours and 30 Echoes in cash to advance your Orphanage scheme on The Tower of Eyes
  • you can turn in 3 Favours for 25 Certifiable Scraps in the Flit
  • Urchin Favours can be used for Preparatory Research at your Lodgings
use Renown:
conflict cards:
  • A familiar face by the school railings: conflict between Urchins and The Widow. When you have 5 Favours: Urchins and Connected: The Widow 30, this card is added to your deck. It cannot be discarded, but will disappear from your hand if you spend your Favours/Connected elsewhere. Siding with a faction grants a reward; but siding with the Urchins costs 500 CP of Connected: The Widow, while siding with the Widow will remove all your Favours: Urchins. There is no neutral option.
  • The Devil and the Child: conflict between Urchins and Hell. When you have 5 Favours of both factions, this card is added to your deck. It cannot be discarded, but will disappear from your hand if you spend your Favours elsewhere. Successfully siding with one faction will grant a reward, at the cost of 2 opposing faction's Favours. There is a neutral option unlocked with Subtle 8 which grants a small reward even on a failure, but costs 3 actions.
  • Youthful high spirits: conflict between Urchins and Docks. When you have 5 Favours of both factions, this card is added to your deck. It cannot be discarded, but will disappear from your hand if you spend your Favours elsewhere. Siding with one faction will remove all of the opposing faction's Favours. There is no neutral option.

Definitely looking forward to having this all in the same place. Your effort is appreciated.

Wiwo. Almost certainly not a squid in a cunningly tailored suit. Surely.

Care for some cider? Here's how to ask me for some. Strange pranks strongly preferred.

I'm a Correspondent and would be delighted to lecture at your orphanage.

One of the endings to the Blemmigan affair adds an option to the Bohemians opp card which gives you some memories of distant shores, some romantic notions scaled to your modified persuasive, and 0-1 Bohemians favours.

This is gonna be epic!

One piece that I've been putting together manually on my own is the profitability of various favors gains/uses. Once renown is up as high as I can get it, I want to know which ways of gaining and cashing out favors are worthwhile.

It's pretty complicated though, still trying to figure it out.

Early Cheesemongers cards give out a favour for siding with various factions, especially nice for new-ish or refusing to progress players.

An agent of the Cheesemonger 1-3
- Church: Tip off the priest
- Rubbery: Talk to the Rubbery Men (random 0-1 favours)
- Tomb-Colonist: Betrayal and bandages
- Urchins: Tip off the urchins

An agent of the Cheesemonger 4-5
Options lowers 1C of AAotC
- Bohemian: Art is eternal!
- Docks: Tip off the ship's captain
- Revolutionaries: Tip off the anarchists
- Society: Tip off the official
