It should be fine. You have to make a lot of sacrifices to reach the end of the quest, but you can stop in the middle if you feel that it is too much. There are technically 4 different endings to Seeking, 3 of which require you to render your account useless, but turning back before the Gate will give you an unique item for your efforts.

A lot of people do end up making an alternate account so that they can find out what's NORTH, but its not a deal breaker.

I might have to make an alternate account then since I rather like my main character. I can at least go as far as to before the point of no return XD

Is it possible to draw cards related to weeping scars/stain on your soul/memory of chains directly from your deck?

Only for the very first Weeping Scar at SMEN 7. Otherwise, no. You have to force draw through the Seeking Road.

I'm guessing this thread is where people will be most familiar with the topic: what's the best grind for Appalling Secrets? Is there anything better than UB for clues and upconverting?

If you haven't been chucked out of the university, interviewing the Department of ____________ staff on "investigations in the university" to gain casing plus clues and then cashing it in via raiding a message drop on "the heights of Chicanery" in the Flit for more clues is the way forward. It pays slightly better than AotB but more importantly it pays entirely in clues.

Dang, I have in fact finished the university storyline. I don't remember AotB giving any appalling secrets or things that can be converted to them though, what do you mean by that?

I think they're referencing, as you might recall, the way AotB was the gold standard Echo grind (1.68 EPA) a few years ago, whereas this pays slightly better (~1.78 EPA).

Hmm - relatively recently arrived and I appear to be Seeking now. Not entirely sure I want to either! Just out of curiosity, are there opportunities to back out of this if you want to?

Is there an accepted optimal way to keep "money" following the Winking Isle fire sale? Buying items to sell back later that preperations won't eat?

Also, you can't even lose The Sun Beneath The Sea, right?

You can keep tier 3 items by side-converting them to Memories of Distant Shores or Brilliant Souls (you only have to forsake you earthly possessions, not your infernal).
I don't know what the optimal way to keep your money is, I used everything I got to buy equipment and the leftovers went into weasels for urchin favours and Battered Grey Overcoats for Renown: Constables.
The wiki doesn't list any way to lose The Sun Beneath The Sea?, so I presume there is none. I still have mine.

There are several ways to keep your money:

- Winsome Dispossessed Orphans. If you have access to the Court of the Wakeful Eye (or planning to), you can buy Orphans and offer them to the tigers for Tributes. The orphans themselves are not banned in the Isle so you don't need to turn them into Tributes immediately.
- Strong-Backed Labour. If you're not in any rush and have the actions to spare for turning your money into Labour (which aren't banned in the island either), the Tomb of the Silken Thread is slightly better than Tributes to make money with, assuming you can go through the expedition without failure using a buccaneering approach (needs 267 Watchful to get 100% straightforward).
- Rookery Passwords or Bright Brass Skulls. Technically a loss rather than profit, but if you can't do the above methods, it's the safest way to keep your money as you only lose 4% of your money worth.

And of course, there's nothing wrong with using your money to buy equipment or items you will later need either.

Wait, does completing the quest then turning back lock you out of SMEN permanently? I'm pretty confident that it locks going North ever again permanently, but could you, say, use the options to sell your lodgings or renown again?

Alright, that makes sense. As someone past university, guess I'm stuck doing unfinished business.

Essentially all of Seeking is locked. What happens is you gain the "Embarked on an Expedition to the North" quality, which locks the Seeking Road, which is needed for Arthur, Beau, and Winking Isle.

Dang, thanks. Guess I'll have to reset my Renown first then, and then live with it being permanent.

Call me a fool, but why would you want to reset Renown? The only thing I can think of is favours at the carnival.

Because this is Fallen London and people do such things!
Or you started Seeking before beefing up renown and you care about your lodgings. smile
